Casa Pura Vida Surf Hostel - Tamarindo Costa Rica

We loved our four days here. The beds were comfy and the staff were super helpful. The hostel is well facilitated, great for making friends and a 5 minute walk away from all the shops and the beach in Tamarindo.

Come as a guest and leave as a friend. We had so much fun with the staff and other guests. We kept extending for one night everyday. So far it is the most sociable hostel I have been to in Costa Rica. We had drinks together in the social room before going out at night. Kitchen is well equipped. Beds are comfortable and there is ac at night. I would definitely return. Do not mix it with Pura Vida hostel, which is a different one. Everything is within walking distance.

Mario and Roberto the two Italian managers made me feel very welcome. I was treated as one of the family and that is very important when you are far away from home. Its a very large property built into the side of a hill with lots of greenery which makes for a very natural setting. As with most hostels there is a shared kitchen with three refrigerators and more than ample space for storage. It was like a United Nations of sort with guests from places like Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Brazil, Israel and Great Britain to mention a few. The location couldn't be better really. Although its on a relatively quiet street, you are just a short walk from Playa Langosta and the main drag on Tamarindo Beach. They have the mandatory rentals and surf lessons and are very willing to help you in whatever needs you have. Being senior I was cautioned to go with the private room as all the shared dorms were occupied by the younger generation. The wi-fi was adequate and the quiet and kitchen hours were strictly enforced. All in all I would not hesitate to stay here again. PURA VIDA ROCKS!

Me and my friends stayed here for 5 nights and we won’t be coming back. Our initial introduction to this hostel was hostile and very unwelcoming. Having just finished a tiring 10 hour journey with myself having just lost my phone we were in a slightly agitated state. The receptionist was extremely unhelpful when I asked about the possibility of finding my phone. He then proceeded to insinuate me and my friends were poor when we supposedly complained about the VAT on card payments, which we didn’t , in which he said we should have gone to Mexico it’s got a cheaper VAT. How dare you insult us like that . This lack of respect was a constant theme with all of the staff. Every interaction we had with the staff was unhelpful and rude. My friend lost a nice top in a wash she had done with them and with every right to complain about where it had gone they were almost confrontational as if we out of order to complain. The room situation was also strange with some rooms having air cons and some not yet they were all the same price . I do not recommend.
