Grupotel Orquidea

Var ska man börja med detta "4 * hotell" Mycket kort transfer från flygplatsen, vilket var fantastiskt med tanke på att ha en så lång dag! Vid ankomst sent på kvällen verkade hotellet mycket trevligt från utsidan. Checkade in snabbt och utan krångel, förutsatt vår rumsnyckel, snabbväxling och en tvätt och vi gick ner för en snabb matbit. Föreställ dig skräcken när den första upplevelsen av mat var att skära i någon grillad kyckling och hitta den rå i mitten. Ingen lysande start.... Matvalet under de två veckorna var inte lysande, jag förväntade mig inte mycket, men något mycket bättre. Om någon av våra gäster hade någon form av fjäderfä skulle vi skära i det och kontrollera om det var tillagat. Få tillfällen där det fanns råa fjäderfän, och från att se andra omnämnanden på Tui blå app anslagstavla från hotellet, verkade detta vara ganska normalt att hända.?! Aldrig i mitt liv har jag behövt kolla om kött tillagas på ett 4* hotell. Men tyvärr, vi blev inte hungriga när vi bodde här, men det kan ha berott på att vi åt mycket ute på de fantastiska restaurangerna tvärs över gatan på torget. La plaza grillen var fantastisk förresten!!! Inte så mycket mer att säga om maten. Tyvärr hade vi sett mer än några kackerlackor på detta hotell... mer än vi skulle vilja ha sett. Efter att ha pratat med familj och vänner som har besökt Gran Canaria - de hade inte sett några kackerlackor på sina hotell.. vilket nu får mig att gissa att detta är normalt.. Jag tror att renlighet kan vara ett problem här. Solsängskrig är avskyvärda på detta hotell, eftersom folk från systerhotellen verkar vilja använda samma faciliteter. Att se människor göra ett galet streck efter sina solstolar från vår balkong klockan 8 var höjdpunkten på vår semester. Renligheten runt poolen var förfärlig, en lolly pop som satt fast vid golvet flera dagar i sträck. Trasiga poolplattor. Poolen stängdes vid mer än ett tillfälle på grund av att kroppsvätskor hittats i poolerna (inte hotellens fel jag förstår). Kvällsunderhållningsbaren var hemsk, svettlåda, påminde mig om något i stil med anläggningar som används av militära styrkor när de var på avskildhet i ökenliknande områden. (Även om jag tror att deras faciliteter är mycket bättre). Det fanns två toaletter för kvinnor nära underhållningsbaren, vilket för antalet gäster som använder orquidea är fruktansvärt. Korridorerna som leder till sovrummen verkade som om städarna bara sopade ut all smuts och lämnade i över en och en halv vecka medan vi var där, nämnde för Tui-representanter och personalen i hotellets reception, men ingenting verkade ha gjorts åt det . Beläggningarna är papperstunna. Vi hade bullriga grannar på övervåningen, jag tror att ställningsbyggare låter mindre än de gjorde (igen inte hotellens fel), vi pratade med receptionen efter tre kvällar, och det verkade fungera något.. området är helt underbart och Jag känner mig välsignad över att ha besökt Gran Canaria, och kommer så småningom tillbaka. We had the best time at this hotel. It is a TUI Blue hotel. The only negative was that the air con in the rooms did not seem very effective. Going in October the weather was a bit more overcast which suited our family with young children. Plenty of sun still and often the best part of the day was around 4pm. There were loads of activities in each day for adults and children. Our daughter went to baby club twice and loved it, she has come away with lots of crafts. The childcare staff were lovely. Entertainment at night was good, the staff shows were excellent! Food was good and varied. Children’s buffet was good too. The whole hotel did not feel too busy, although I can imagine in peak season this would be a lot different. Couple of shops outside the hotel so you didn’t have to go far for anything you needed. It is on the beach but this is stones so if a sandy beach is a must then this would not suit. Only been home a few days and already missing it!

Overall great hotel. We bought booked as 2 adults and one 5 year old child. The reason for booking was for all the reviews raving about the kids club and all the activities for kids, and they did not disappoint. My child loved the kids club, the staff were amazing. He enjoyed every time he went, the activities were well planned, the staff knew his name by the third visit and the way you have to create an account on the app, add pictures of the parents so they can check it’s the correct person collecting them, and sign them in and out every time makes you feel like they are really safe. Cannot praise the kids club and staff enough. They don’t let you put towels on sunbeds before 8 when they open the entrances to the pools, but there’s are quite a lot of people queuing up from 7:15! There are plenty of sunbeds as there are a lot on the grass near the sea, but not enough parasols in general. The kids pool was great, perfect size, depth and slide and our 5 year old could play by himself while we watched. The pool that allowed floats got very busy in the afternoons. The deeper pool was mostly ok, few occasions of not being able to move much due to the amount of people. The rooms are clean and kept nice. The floors mopped every day. We didn’t have enough towels on arrival for the three of us, but by the end of the holiday we had an abundance of towels! For some reason our shower would run ok at some points in the day, but most of the time it would go through a cycle of being ok, getting cold, then boiling hot and repeat this every minute or so. Not worth complaining about though. Overall cleanliness is ok in the public areas. We stayed on the top floor, as we had requested, and the music from the evening entertainment didn’t bother us at night. Yes you could hear it a bit on occasion, but we could sleep through it. The food… this was mainly the only let down. Breakfast was great, best meal of the day. We mainly had lunch from the snack bar and the selection was fine for a quick lunch which is all we wanted. Dinner however, we thought it started off alright as there was always something that our child would eat, but this then became very repetitive. There is always a spaghetti, a pasta and two sauces. Chips and then two meats such as chicken drumsticks and pork. Pizza in the middle and then a few veggie dishes, rice, salad and meats and cheeses. It got very same-y and even our little boy got bored of having similar things every night. In busy times the food wasn’t getting replenished quick enough which meant people started queuing and when something was brought out, it was quickly empty again. My pet peeve was the desserts section though… large selection which was great and always plenty of selections, but no idea what each item was as there was just a collection of name cards at the top that didn’t correspond to the dessert below. Not great for anyone with allergies. You wouldn’t know which one contains what, which isn’t very safe. On one n
