Anchor Hotel and Seabed Restaurant

Warm room, good location. Good choice for travellers back from Islay on late night ferry.

One night stay thank god. Rooms are awful. Electric radiator is broken. No heated towel rail so at 6 degrees outside the room was cold. Bed is hard and the duvet was a summer duvet. Dust, dirt and stains everywhere. Bathroom so small you couldn’t swing a cat and no where to put your toiletry bag other than the floor. Extractor in bathroom is just a hole with a towel stuffed in it. See photos. I would avoid it. On the plus side the restaurant was good.

We arrived soaked after a lengthy bike ride and wanted to get into a warm bedroom as quickly as possible. There was no-one on reception and instead I had to wait rather too long for one of the overworked waiting-on staff to appear and check us in. The room was cold. There was no information at all so we weren’t able to get any heat with asking further. We were also advised to not even bother with the towel rail as none of them worked in the hotel. All far from ideal when you’re trying to dry out soaking clothes. The tap was very loose and worst of all there was a huge crack right across the seat of the toilet. Totally unhygienic. I mentioned it when we went down again and was thanked for telling them - but it clearly wasn’t going to be fixed for us. The room should stayed unused until it had been fixed. There was also only one, tiny shower gel and one tiny shampoo between the two of us. You get the picture. The food in the Seabed Restaurant was reasonable but was not a patch on the standard when we ate there last two years ago.

My husband and I were cold and wet from the flash flooding we experienced earlier in the trip, and the hotel's locally sourced, vegetarian and gluten-free menu did not disappoint in warming our bellies and spirits! The room was cozy and a welcomed reprieve after 15 hours on a plane and 3 hours of driving in the rain.

The restaurant in the Anchor hotel was a relavation! Lovely staff, fabulous food, good wine list and nice decor. We highly recommend trying the venison and the smoked haddock risotto, both delicious and beautifully presented. Not to be missed.

Superb venue with free car parking opposite the hotel next to the harbour. The Breakfast was excellent and we went to the Restaurant for an evening meal which didn’t disappoint. The Staff especially Ghosh were excellent and provided very attentive service. Unfortunately the WiFi in the Room was absolutely dire and failed to work . We did mention this on two occasions but nothing was done to improve the situation. We did expected some form of compensation for this but nothing was done. This marred our stay and we left with some disappointment……..

Hotel is located on the harbour front with easy, free part right outside the hotel. We were in room 3 which has beautiful views of the harbour. Room was compact and as previous reviews have mentioned the rusty towel rail and poor ventilation in the bathroom should be addressed. The bed was comfortable- had a very good nights sleep. Wi-Fi didn’t reach the room - boosters should be installed to improve this. Breakfast was lovely - smoked salmon and scrambled eggs was delicious.

We enjoy an excellent meal here at a busy time of the year for Tarbert. The menu was varied and inspiring and food did not disappoint. Our waitress was new to the job and was very helpful and efficient. She found answers to the many questions one of our group asked, always with a polite smile. Will visit again next time we are in Tarbert.

A delightful and very comfortable independent hotel right by the beautiful harbour in Tarbert. The decor is lovely - modern Scottish - and all the staff were really friendly. It was Andy's birthday and they spoiled him nicely, he was chuffed. Jewel in the crown is dinner - we ate here three times and it was consistently imaginative and delicious, punching far abovr it's weight price-wise. The whole thing was amazing value for money. Thank you Ross and team! There are some super things to do in the area - the gardens on Gigha and the mystical, marvellous Keill's chapel just two.
