Once their fine dining restaurant, Platan received its 2 Michelin starts this year, I decided to take my husband to celebrate his birthday, hence was looking for accommodation for a night. The Manor seemed the perfect choice with its packages for daytime spa ahead of dinner. Unfortunately the experience itself has been less perfect with the Manor's staff. Not being on top of their game is an understatement, when I was trying to book one of their £600/night packages. When initially calling them up, they weren't sure if anything would be charged up front on our card, then promised to confirm if any payment would have been received and on the back on that we would receive confirmation of the booking, but then would have to pay for the most expensive option of the package in full and in advance, regardless which dining option we were going to choose - not that they asked at any point whether we had any dietary or other restrictions, preferences. Once the e-mail landed, called them up again, let them know that we don't have the option to transact money onto a Hungarian bank account, hence asked for their foreign currency account details. This they haven't shared, so followed up again and offered to give them card details over the phone so they could take the money directly from the account. Their response was "we don't have the time for this" and said I should e-mail over all card details including security number from the back of the card - which is literally the first thing your bank tells you not to do under any circumstances? At this point being both disrespected, but mainly disappointed in what a 2 Michelin star establishment (their accommodation branch mainly) set as a standard in Hungary is where we are. We have visited several brilliant, also Michelin star spots over the years, but have never been treated this rudely anywhere. So unfortunate as we were looking forward to enjoying Istvan Pesti and his team's experience!
