The White Lion

We were celebrating my sister’s birthday, so an overnight stay and a visit to the vineyard for a tour and dinner close by. All did not go to plan as an electric cable had come down over the vineyard so we were unable to attend site, this is where the staff at the white lion really stepped up, So n returning to the hotel I told the staff about the situation they made sure we had an excellent dinner and threw in a free desert, they made sure we were catered for , we enjoyed the live entertainment and even had our picture on the website a couple of days later This was my 3rd visit to the White Lion and I would definitely recommend it, it’s quirky and very welcoming

"Sumptuous" possibly best sums up the room. Bed enormous and firm, pillows positively billowing, probably the best stocked and varied refreshments table I've ever seen (though not all of it free), and the shower/bath facility broadly very good, but... lighting was a bit low (do you *want* mood lighting in the bathroom?) even with the mirror light on, and *please*, designers, don't put a shelf right over the basin so I bang my head every time I clean my teeth! Soap dispensers.... not clever. Very posh and twee, but hopeless to use in the shower with wet soapy hands. I get you want to avoid one-time plastics, but why not install wall-mounted push-button dispensers? Having said that, the towels were amazing, and bathrobes too - enough soft towelling to hibernate in - wonderful! Just one query about the loo seat - no, it wasn't loose, or been pushed aside, it was very firmly fixed - off centre. Why??? If you like quirky olde worlde places to stay, but with modern facilities, you'll love this place. HOWEVER... we stayed on what turned out to be the hottest days of the year, and despite a huge bay window the ONLY opener was the centre lower sash, and that lifted only 3 inches. Being covered by a net didn't help so night time was very hot and very stuffy, even with the provided fan running all night. White Lion, *please* improve the ventilation in this room (Rye). (We didn't eat in, purely because we wanted to sample all the eateries around the area).

An enjoyable and very comfortable stay in a spacious room at this pub with rooms, located in the centre of the bustling town with plenty of places to eat and parking at the back of the pub. Ideal for getting to local tourist sites within a fifteen mile radius.

Stayed two nights for a visit to a local attraction. Wonderful stay from start to end . Greeted promptly and super courteously upon arival everything explained and even a free drink which was a lovely gesture. Pub is cosy friendly oozing in character serving decent drinks and food . Hotel room was big spacious & Quirky , but importantly spotlessly clean. Lovely free amenity tray plus a a varied honesty box of treats. Breakfast was also varied and served by lovely friendly staff albeit a bit of a wait to arrive but honestly not an issue to bother just factored in extra time for morning to enjoy extra coffee and continental treats! Wholeheartedly recommended by us. A genuinely pleasant stay complemented by genuinely friendly staff. very much looking forward to our return visit which is already booked.

Beautiful, incredibly spacious room. Amazing, huge, comfortable bed. Oat milk in room was a nice touch. Honesty box full of goodies with prices listed. Friendly staff. Enjoyed good evening meal which we didn’t wait long for. Great location. Car park for guests. Lovely place to stay. Would definitely recommend.

Booked room at The White Lion Hotel, for night to have dinner on the Wealdon Pullman. Very convenient location to the train station. Although room was tired,it was very clean. Bed very comfy with lovely soft pillows and good mattress All staff were very friendly and attentive. Breakfast was superb with plenty of choice. Would definitely come back if in area

Room was spacious , clean and very comfortable. There were some lovely touches in the room like a little honesty box of treats, complimentary chocolate tiffin and all the amenities you could want in a B&B. The food was excellent and the staff behind the bar and reception were very welcoming . The live band was great and we even got a call in advance to let us know there was a band playing - great service
