Great fun pub, staff were fantastic and the location superb! Right on the lovely Bantham beach a short drive from Hope Cove, Salcombe and Dartmouth. The food in the pub was excellent and very varied and not expensive. The service was friendly. Breakfast was great

We stayed here for 2 nights in the b&b and it was so run down , there was no staff and everywhere in the b&b smelt of smoke. The food was greasy and overpriced ,and for dinner when we went the food was overpriced and we ordered our food at half 7 and got it at half 9 , my friends fish pie was just liquid and tasted very bland and the waiters were so rude and it had bad service . Finally the view was ruined by the sight of the missing workers smoking on the roof and the only good part was the location itself .Disappointing .

Really disappointing lunch - food was extremely average; salt and pepper squid clearly out of a frozen packet, very salty and very tough and rubbery; goat's cheese and spinach parcel very indifferent and also cooked from frozen. Don't get me started on the fish pie...very watery, super bland, loads of pre-prepared vegetables which do not belong in a fish pie. Service lacklustre and food even worse. Really disappointing for what should be a beautiful pub in a beautiful location.

Reading some reviews I cannot believe we were in the same pub! The barman did not welcome our family and friends. Insisted that both families ordered together, not separately then split bill after eating. What on earth…..? We moved into bare courtyard with some tables and had to go back into pub due to dreadful smell from drains. The food was not good, no one asked if everything ok. Total disaster. Barman disinterested and verging on rude-dreadful hospitality. Can only think they get business due to position just up from fabulous beach.

We love the Sloop, down a long lane from the main road but on gorgeous Bantham beach. The best beach in S Devon. Lovely pub. Super service. Log firs always stocked and lit and the best mussels ever. A good mixture of locals and visitors. Pig out on the food and then have a wonderful walk on the beach overlooking Burgh Island.

A lovely impromptu early dinner at The Sloop Inn, following a sea swim at the beach whilst on a weekend break away. The bar man was super friendly and welcoming, with a good sense of humour, adding to the relaxed vibe. We ordered the mushroom scotch egg starter which was delicious, followed by scampi and mussels. Both were equally delicious, well presented and plentiful. All in all, a very enjoyable meal. We will be sure to return if back this way in the future.

Regarding paulajt2017 review on 9th October. I was sat at the bar when you came into the pub. The staff at the pub were more than courteous to you. Jamie answered you as quickly as possible when you came to the bar, even when he was trying to serve an elderly gentleman with parkinsons. Clicking your fingers at the waitress was also completely out of order, and actually thoroughly rude. You need to learn manners if you use the hospitality industry. I hope you are not seen here again, as if I had been working, I would have thrown you out myself.

Found this gem last year and go as often as I can when visiting the area. Came in this week a couple of times and the food never fails to be top notch nor does the service. Went with Jamie’s food recommendations and he was right……. Such a great atmosphere and team

Most unpleasant evening at The Sloop. Totally ignored by an awful server with a nasty attitude behind the bar. Noticed he was over pleasant with some people and very rude to others - we were in the ‘others’ category! We were kept waiting a very long time for a couple of burgers and had actually decided to leave when they arrived! Not an experience we will be repeating even though we eat out a lot in the area - def def wouldn’t recommend 👎🏻
