We stayed a week end August and into Sept. - in the bottom floor corner apartment closest to the entrance to the compound, so that is probably one of the best with it big terrace. The place is well organized. We received a call the day before, and we were well received on arrival. The daily manager is accomodating and helpful. If I should critisize something it is the interior of the apt. It is large and functional, but it is drap. A bit of colour if only on the "paintings" on the wall - and some more "cosy" lamps - would make a big difference. Especially the lamps in the bedroom are "clinical". But then, the main thing is the outside and the surroundings. There are restaurants within walking distance, and a good one a bit further down the hairpin road leading up to Gardola from Gardesana Occidentale. The name is La Rotonda and it is right on the cliff edge with similar views as from Besass. Like many places around the Mediterranean, one "devil in paradise" is those "moto-cross" bikes that youngsters give full blast up and down the steep roads. They make 10 times the noise of many big ordinary but much stronger motor-bikes. It was not too bad here and it was generally quiet at night. Of course the whole way roound the lake is seaworthy, but also the rocky landscape to the west. National Park Valvestino, which can be reached in an hour via Gargnano on the lakeside, and further west or north into the Dolomites Beware of breakneck mountain bikers and motor-cyklists on the hairpin roads. Some are absolute fools.
