What a terrific experience to stay at the Simmons-Bond B&B in downtown Toccoa, Georgia! The Simmons-Bond B&B, owned by innkeepers Bill and Bella, was a perfect choice for us to stay for our short, but interesting visit, while seeing the historic sites that make Toccoa a town to remember! We arrived from PA by Amtrak at 6:30AM and were met by Bill, who graciously toured us around town, and went above and beyond to help us get a rental car. You cannot ask for a better experience, a better innkeeper, or a better more welcoming place to stay. After breakfast, we headed to Camp Toccoa, an impressive site known for training paratroopers. After touring Camp Toccoa we headed up Currahee to stand on the rock outcropping that overlooks the entire valley. We had lunch at Linda’s Place at the Rebel, shopped at Cornerstone Antiques & Mountain Cove Pottery, went to the Toccoa Military Museum at the train station and visited Currahee Vineyard and Winery. We concluded the day at the historic Traveler’s Rest site, then Toccoa Falls at the college, Broken Bridge park and at St. Mary’s Church. What an impressive town Toccoa is to visit. We cannot thank Bill and Bella enough for providing us with a perfect place to stay, for their recommendations on places to visit and for their willingness to ensure two strangers had a great stay.
