Wonderful place to rest and recoup. Owner Bede was the best host ever! Hot pools were worth the stay alone. Very peaceful location with some great views and wildlife. Rooms were the brightest and most welcoming place we have stayed in for quite some time. We could not say enough good things about this place.

Having stayed at this motel some years earlier and enjoyed the clean rooms and pleasant soak in the hot pool my wife and I looked forward to a return visit. I phoned during the afternoon to advise of our 6.00pm arrival time which the owner said was no problem. Strangely on arrival we found the reception door locked and no answer to the buzzer. When trying the two phone numbers we only got an answer phone. After a have an hour wait at the car a man finally opened the office door and appeared to be totally intoxicated. He apologized that he had fallen asleep. With some difficultly he found our booking and showed us the room and stumbled back to his office. After unloading we discovered he had taken the door key. My attempts to contact him went unanswered. We had a very disappointing and unsettled night. We left early morning and will not stay again.

This is a cute and affordable motel up the road from Turangi. Our booking consisted of 3 rooms (plus the bathroom)- a main area with the kitchenette, kitchen table and a single bed, a tv room with a couch, a main bedroom, and the bathroom. The grounds were quiet during our visit. The Rainbow Motel and Hot Pools had clean, comfy beds, a strong shower & a kitchenette. I loved the rural surroundings and all the birds! The traffic from the highway did not bother us at all. It's about a 20' drive to the parking lot at the end of the Tongariro crossing, where we met our shuttle for the hike. It turned out to be a really comfortable & spacious place to recover the day after our hike, and to drink tea on a rainy day! Our motel carpet needed some updating and/or cleaning, but overall the room felt clean. We enjoyed the hot pools on our first night. But on our second and third nights they were not nearly as hot as the first night, which was disappointing. The motel was still enjoyable but we were hoping for a hotter soak!

This was a great stay. We rented a holiday rental close by and this was by far cheaper, cleaner and nicer. Close to the hotsprings but that doesn't matter because this place has its own private heated pools. Everything in the room was spotless. Beds were comfortable and it had everything we needed. Great stay.

A++++++ This is such an awesome place....I have Rhumatoid Arthritis and the Takannau Mineral water is some of the best in New Zealand...easy to access private pools with a rural outlook. Comfortable bed, lovely host, clean and well equiped, quite stay.....we will be back....Thank you

Plenty of parking. Hot spring tub was relaxing and refreshing. Room was clean and homely and suited us perfectly. Close to town and the recommendation to drive to the view of the area was most appreciated. Thank you. Happy to stay there again.

A lovely stay with a great addition of hot pools. Some of the pictures are old and don't reflect the modern motel rooms and decor. The rooms are large with thermal heating keeping them lovely and warm. The beds are lovely and comfortable with crisp white linen. The bathroom was modern, crisp and very clean. The kitchenette is suitable with a hot plate and microwave. Tea and coffee are provided. A very nice cheap motel with lovely facilities.

Cherchant un hébergement pas trop éloigné du point de départ de la Tongariro Alpine Crossing, nous avons du nous rabattre, compte tenu de l'affluence estivale et en désespoir de cause, sur le Rainbow Motel Hot Tubes, qui n'était pas, loin de là, notre premier choix.... Motel fatigué, au confort assez sommaire et à la propreté (très) relative... Les hébergements sont assez grands, mais rien ne fonctionne correctement... Quant aux Hot pools, il s'agit de petits bacs en ciment couverts de tôle ondulée, dans lesquels circule l'eau chaude captée des sources avoisinantes... L'environnement en revanche est assez agréable, très verdoyant et calme. Nous n'en sommes pas morts, mais vous l'aurez compris : si vous le pouvez, choisissez un autre motel que celui-ci....
