We stayed four nights in a terrace room, dinner, bed and breakfast. We were staying on a special offer and it represented great value. We have stayed dozens of times over the years and TLH is still a lovely place for a break. Yes, it needs a refurbishment, but the rooms are large and comfortable, the food is excellent (mushroom and spinach soup and lasagne stand outs). They were extremely busy when we stayed but the waiting staff in the restaurant worked incredibly hard and were so polite and efficient. For leisure we enjoyed the Fire and Ice experience. Only negatives were that the poolside jacuzzi was out of order, the Buckingham lounge was closed and the rooms are no longer serviced every day.

We visit this complex every year as it is a good base for a holiday with young children. Parking has definitely improved which used to be a problem when it was not regulated. The staff at the Toorak are very pleasant and do all they can to help any maintenance problems were resolved very quickly. The rooms are dated for instance we had no power points at the bedside but they were clean and serviced quickly in the mornings. We did note no service was available on two days a week which can be inconvenient and of little benefit to the paying customers especially as our rooms were over £250 a night. A little shortsighted and penny pinching for a 3* hotel. The restaurant we found on the whole was pretty good and compliments to the chef . We did note if you enjoy a fish dish for your evening meal it was cod on the 4 out of 5 nights we stayed very short on variety. The swimming pools are great for the children but the outside area now is starting to look unloved with broken seating and a general feeling of not being that clean. It can be very busy during the day which doesn’t help waiting staff but table tops were not regularly wiped and dropped food ect not cleared away.

We recently stayed here for a night whilst visiting Torquay. The hotel was pretty expensive for what it was and we got it at a last minute price as well. The room was a good size but was quite shabby and dated. We also did find a false nail in one of the beds which grossed us out a bit. There were facilities to make tea and coffee in the room but no milk. The beds weren’t particularly comfy either. However, we didn’t come away to stay in the room so we can get past this. We didn’t eat here so can’t comment on the restaurants. We did use the indoor pool which my daughter really enjoyed. To be honest, all of the leisure areas were really pleasant albeit dated but there was something really nice about them. I really liked the little gift shop in site too. If we happen to be in Torquay in the future, we’d definitely consider staying at the resort again.

The Toorak is a nice hotel, the room was lovely and the bed very comfy. The staff were very friendly and helpful, they couldn't do enough for you. I've given only 3 stars because as a wheelchair user, I had to go outside a lot to make my way around from one venue to another, and also the access ramp to the Toorak wasn't the best, I wouldn't have liked to use it alone. Luckily, my husband was with me to steady my chair. A purpose built ramp in keeping with the age of the building would be much better.

Lovely terrace room, a suntrap with sun beds. Good breakfast and helpful staff. What made our 3 day break special was the very friendly, very helpful general manager. This guy went above and beyond to please and alway with a smile for everyone. Thank you

Scruffy hotel staffed by people with absolutely no interest in putting themselves out for the guests and not much in making them welcome either. The food was variable, though to be quite good value when it was good. I didn't stay there but my friends said the rooms were tired and the breakfasts indifferent, at best.

Our second stay at the Toorak, and it didn't disappoint. We had a lovely large and airy room. Everything was spotlessly clean, and the bed was comfortable. Plenty of storage space, good mirrors, and everything you need for a long weekend. I particularly like the bath, so many hotels don't have them now. The food for breakfast and dinner was delicious and well presented, with generous portions. The staff are efficient and courteous. Location is perfect for the seafront and town, and its an easy bus ride to Brixham and Paignton.
