The Charterhouse

Just got back from a two night stay at the Charterhouse. Lisa our host was lovely and couldn't do enough for me and my wife. Our room was on the small side but had everything you could want. Exceptionally clean with comfy bed, nice shower and a good choice for breakfast. On the first morning I had smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and brown toast, tea and orange juice. On the second morning I had a fab full breakfast with tea, orange juice and toast. Excellent value for money. If you decide to stay here don't miss a visit to Charterhouse Village which is a short stroll up the lane. Absolutely delightful place. Thatched cottages and a 1,000 year old church. Plus a good pub serving great food. We wish Lisa served an evening meal as it would have saved us from having to go out looking for somewhere close to eat.

This is a fantastic hotel. The rooms are great and very comfortable. The breakfasts are superb, with local produce and prepared to a very high standard. Lisa, your host, is fabulous and nothing is too much trouble. Only about a two minute walk to the beach and about 15 minutes from Torquay harbour where you'll find restaurants and shops. Lots of other things to do close by as well. I would highly recommend a stay at this hotel and will hopefully return soon.

Lisa & Christophe are warm & welcoming hosts. Facilities are varied & well presented. Location is idyllic, situated the Paignton side of Torquay away from the hustle & bustle of Torquay. A short walk from the seafront in one direction & Cockington Village in the other. You can walk to Paignton in about 30mins or there are nearby bus & train routes. The buses go from the aforementioned seafront & the train station is about a 10min walk from the Charterhouse. Cockington is a thatched village with a plethora of establishments in a community setting. Served by tea rooms, an ice cream parlour, local craft stores & the Drum Inn with its impressive beer garden all bordering a country park. We took a trip to Dartmouth via.a steam train ride from Paignton to Kingswear where we took the foot ferry across the River Dart to Dartmouth. We would recommend the George & Dragon situated a little further back from the river. Thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Charterhouse so we have booked again for next year & are taking more family members with us.
