The Steam Packet Inn

This was a really pleasant trip to Totnes to visit my son. The weather was fantastic, the town delightful and the Inn was a lovely central location for our base. The en-suite room was decorated to a high standard and the staff were friendly and helpful. A particular highlight is the deck overlooking the river Dart however, the seagulls can be very eager to share the great food so the supplied water pistols are sometimes needed .

Ideal location for our short pre-Christmas get-away. Quiet waterside location with parking. The Inn has 6 nicely decorated rooms above the traditional pub and restaurant. Very welcoming and helpful staff. A nice menu but also close enough to walk to Totnes shops and restaurants. A real find.

We don't often write a review for a hotel but the Steam Packet Inn in Totnes we such a nice experience we felt we should. Prior to the visit our phoned enquiries were answered quickly and with a friendly manner. On arrival the assistant manager Jackie showed us to our room, she was polite and super friendly but professional. The room itself was immaculate, the bathroom super clean and the towels provided were fresh and in abundance. There was the ability to make hot drinks and fresh milk was available. Every member of staff we talked to was friendly and helpful. A really professional set up with well trained and friendly staff.

Pros.. - Lovely rooms. - Lovely products in the bathroom. - Clean and tidy. - Comfortable beds. - Great location on the river and short walk from central Totnes. Cons.. - I felt the welcome could've been better. The pub was busy when we arrived and I felt we were secondary to the pub customers. - Having fresh milk for my tea was nice but I disliked the shared fridge for guests in the corridor. I'd prefer a fridge in my room. - Car parking is a bit tight. - Restaurant menu is a bit limited, especially for vegetarians. If you stay more than one night it's a bit repetitive. Overall, we had a pleasant stay here and would definitely stay again.

We stayed here for a night after a nearby friend’s wedding, and it’s great for a short stay to explore Totnes. Rooms are well appointed and clean, albeit slightly on the small side. Staff were all friendly and attentive. Breakfast was good. We also ate here in the evening and the food was good, we stayed on a Sunday and the beef roast was particularly good and the portion was very big. A word of caution if you visit in summer and eat outside…. The seagulls are very hungry and are very brave, so they won’t think twice about dive bombing your table and stealing your chips! Overall good value for money.

Visited and stayed at the Steam Packet on Mother’s Day. Had a lamb roast which was delicious, staff all friendly and service was excellent. Plenty of drinks to choose from, also a selection of board games and cards, great if you need to keep little ones occupied. Stayed in one of the rooms above the pub, very clean rooms, comfy bed and pillows. Plenty of tea, coffee and bottled water. Hairdryer in room, Iron and ironing board available. Location is good, short stroll to town centre and train station is not far (walkable). This pub is under new management and so far so good. Would stay again and would recommend.
