War ein angenehmes Hostel

The place suited my purposes for a three night stay. Ideally located, friendly staff, clean showers and kitchen, washing facilities and safe. There was rather a much younger contingent of guests who seemed to be staying longer term but all were friendly towards me in spite of the age disparity(I'm in my 60s!) I enjoyed my stay and would use the hostel again.

This was such a bad experience I arrived at the hostel at 1am after a flight. A man was in my bed and it was dirty I rang the company and they came to clean the bed which was good. However he kept coming in and out of the bedroom so I got no sleep at all. He was not even meant to be at the hostel. I asked for a refund or some money back and they did nothing. As a solo traveler having travelled the east coast I would not stay here again or recommend this hostel.

This was the worst hostel I have ever stayed in. Don't be taken in by the pictures you see online cuz the room was vile. It was dirty and the room was so outdated and the people who work there r tapped in the head. Weirdos. So many bloody rules! 🤮🤮

I haven't had much experience at all in backpackers but I was impressed with the Civic Guesthouse. The staff have mostly been very friendly, accomodating and helpful, and the general atmosphere really positive and safe which is awesome. They have a good cleaning routine so the place is in good condition and maintained really well. It's in a great location and has all the amenities/facilities you need. Noise management is handled really well with a nighttime quiet rule. One negative comment I will make is that there is not really a system at all for recyclable items. There is just one bin for recyclables such as drinks cans but aside from that all waste goes into the general bins/landfill and this is pretty soul-crushing since there are so many people coming and going and therefore so much waste disposed of in this way. It would be great to have an improved system for this to sort waste and educate people in the process to be aware of where they are getting rid of their waste. Otherwise, thank you Civic for a great backpacking experience!
