The Alverton

A lovely building in a great location but way below the standard that I would expect at the price. The room was quite scruffy with dirty windows, the curtains hanging off the rails, a mouldy shower and variable housekeeping. Breakfasts were so bad we ate out one day - the bacon was rock hard, tasting as if it had been kept warm for ages, there was very little choice of cereals or juices and the toast was barely toasted - people were sending it back. We had one dinner which was mediocre at best. Not recommended.

What can I say?? I can't seem to find the words, so I'll keep it brief; I wanted to express just how grateful we are for our amazing wedding day! Every element, every member of staff, from planning to end.. everything and everyone were spectacular! Please pass on our gratitude to everyone that had a part to play in our wedding. Every one of our guests commented on how amazing the venue and all the staff were. Particularly Clare and Sally! You took all the stress away from us, you really went above and beyond and made our day better than we ever imagined it to be. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts! Mr & Mrs Gallacher-Dingle

We got married at The Alverton on Saturday 24th August and it really was the best day of our lives! The venue is absolutely stunning! Lisa and Hannah did an incredible job on upgrading our room for the night of our wedding, thank you!! The room was stunning. Clare and Sally made sure everything was perfect for us on the run up to the day and on the wedding day itself, thank you!! Simon and Elliot on the bar were doing an amazing job. All of our guests commented on how amazing the staff are at The Alverton. Thank you for making our day so amazing.

This hotel has wow factor so easy 5 stars from me. 1. Staff were outstanding, special thanks to Hannah, Molly and Summer! 2. Very interesting history to the hotel, set in lovely grounds. 3. Easy parking in city centre. 4. Beautiful rooms spotlessly clean. 5. lovely restaurant and terrace. 6. outstanding food, tasty, well presented, came out quickly. Really enjoyed my stay. Thank you very much to the whole team at The Alverton.

We have stayed at the Alverton 4 times now in the last 5 years, but we visit regularly for food, We have always received the warmest of welcomes and care, on this last occasion the staff went above and beyond to help my daughter feel truly special in celebrating her 16th birthday at the hotel, A special thank you to Paul and the team!! I can not recommend the hotel enough, such a beautiful setting, lovely rooms, gardens and amazing staff great for any occasion but the Friday fizz and Chips or the cream tea is a must!

Beautiful meal at The Alverton last evening. We attended the Lobster on the lawn event. Location food and service were all spot on. We had some fun with the Manager throughout service. Would definitely recommend. Thank you to all involved .

We were lucky enough to have our wedding at The Alverton and wow it was just incredible! The whole team were so amazing from start to finish. Clare has been my rock throughout the planning process and nothing has been too much trouble for her. She thought of all the finer details on the day which made me feel incredibly relaxed. Sally was so helpful and bubbly throughout also - dream team!! The food on the day was delicious and the wedding guests loved it. The most perfect wedding day and we are so happy we chose The Alverton because everything was just perfect! Thank you so much team

Had 1 night at this fabulous hotel. Gorgeous building, lovely room, fabulous food. But, what made our stay so special were the wonderful, friendly staff. Every single staff member was so polite, helpful and smiley. We will definitely be back and will certainly be recommending The Alverton to all our friends. I can’t speak highly enough about the wonderful service we had. Thank you 🙏🏼

We were married here 25 years ago and returned for two nights to what was the bridal suite but is now room 25, the Grand executive suite. We had a wonderful long weekend, the hotel staff had left us a bottle of fizz and anniversary card which was a lovely touch. Dinner was excellent and there was a good choice on the breakfast menu. The staff were friendly and helpful, I couldn’t fault it. The room was very well appointed , we had a large lounge area with tv and a tv in our room. Large fridge, hairdryer and the usual dressing gown and slippers. Well stocked tea tray, cafetière, coffee pods, water etc., and plenty of milk which is usually in short supply. There are some areas of the hotel that need a bit of attention but with an old building you expect that and have to look at the bigger picture, which is a very comfortable, well appointed country house hotel. We shall return.
