Hotel Am Schloss Tübingen

Beautiful room, big comfortable bed and very good breakfast with options for everyone in our family, including a picky eating toddler and myself (vegan). We also tried the hotel restaurant for dinner and have nothing but praise to give. The service was amazing and the food was really wonderful. We loved visiting the town and will definitely come back and choose to stay at the Hotel am Schloss again when we do!

Very expensive, but I couldn't find any availability elsewhere for a single person. No air-conditioning or even a fan. It was about 34 degrees daytime (end of July 2024) and still very hot at night. It was a superior room (nothing superior about it except perhaps the size) and in the annex – another building across the road. No nice view, except onto other buildings. I could see into their kitchens in the evening. Extremely noisy outside from a nearby burger restaurant. Noise continued some nights until 11.30pm. Bathroom tap did not work properly. Sometimes hot water and no cold water available. Fridge was not working when I arrived as socket was faulty. After plugging it in elsewhere, it never got cold. Location is, although central, up a steep road and not as near to the railway station as I would have preferred. No bacon or tasty hot breakfast except for always meatballs or falafels. Weird. You had to stipulate your time of arrival for breakfast! Restaurant was okay, but nothing special. Male German receptionist could not crack a smile, but the Polish breakfast lady was very nice. Hotel totally overhyped.

Tübingen is one of the prettiest towns in Germany (the bombers left it alone), and the Hotel am Schloss is in a great position just under the castle entrance. Our corner room on the first floor (no. 18) was spacious with a picturesque view towards the town centre. Excellent breakfast was included, with eggs however you wanted them. Parking was no problem next to the hotel. The only gripe is my usual one that hotels in Germany are often over-renovated. The Am Schloss is an ancient building but you’d be hard pressed to tell inside (the exterior is charmingly antique). The rooms were €168 a night for two people with breakfast.

We had two nights here and loved the hotel. The location is unsurpassed, the room was very comfortable, with a view of the castle gateway, and the staff are excellent. We ate in the restaurant both nights and were very happy with the food, the service and the atmosphere. The views from the terrace are superb. I can’t imagine there is a better place in the town.

Des agréables moments dans ce pittoresque hôtel idéalement situé dans la vieille ville... chambres agréables, propres et au calme avec une bonne literie. Un service très attentionné et à l'écoute. Très bon petit déjeuner et savoureux dîner au restaurant Mauganeschtle !

Das Hotel ist nicht empfehlenswert. Das Beste daran ist noch die Lage, da man gleich in der Stadt ist. Ich war im Nebengebäude untergebracht. Das Zimmer war ok und recht ruhig, aber zu teuer, das Bett etwas durchgelegen. Zimmerservice kaum vorhanden (Müll wurde zwar geleert, aber das Bett nicht gemacht). Inakzeptabel war, dass der Frühstücksraum sehr klein ist und man am Abend vorher angeben musste, wann man zum Frühstück kommt und der Raum dann trotzdem so voll war, dass man nur mit Mühe und Not einen Platz gefunden hat. Grund hierfür war, dass sich kein Gast an die Zeit gehalten hat und alle angeblich zur gleichen Zeit kamen. Das Personal war total überfordert. Das kann man alles noch verzeihen, aber nicht, dass ich dann noch vom einem Mitarbeiter angepflaumt wurde, nur weil ich gefragt hatte, ob es noch einen weiteren Raum gibt! Das Frühstück selbst war gut, allerdings muss man den Kaffee am Tresen bestellen und dann auch nochmal erinnern, dass er gebracht wird. Geschmeckt hat er auch nicht. Ich würde dieses Hotel trotz der guten Lage nicht mehr buchen. Unfreundliches Personal geht einfach gar nicht!
