Extremely Disappointed - False Advertising and Hidden Fees I am writing this review to warn potential guests about the misleading practices and poor conditions at Sand Box Apartments in Tugan. ## Hidden Fees and Deceptive Pricing Upon booking, I was charged the advertised rate of $133.40 for one night. However, I was then hit with an additional $95 cleaning fee that was never mentioned during the booking process. This represents a 71% increase from the advertised price and feels like a deliberate attempt to mislead customers. ## "Luxury" Claims Are Completely False The property is advertised as "Luxury," but the reality is starkly different: - **Walls and furniture**: Heavily stained throughout the apartment, including the dining table - **Cleanliness**: Thick dust accumulated in every corner of every room - **Pest issues**: Cockroaches present in the shower area - **Air conditioning**: Visibly mouldy and disgusting condition - **Amenities**: No Wi-Fi despite being advertised as available ## Location Issues The apartment is positioned directly under the Gold Coast Airport flight path, creating constant noise disruption. Combined with extremely thin walls between units, guests can expect no peace or quiet during their stay. ## Final Thoughts The $95 cleaning fee is clearly not being used for its intended purpose, as evidenced by the poor state of cleanliness throughout the property. This appears to be nothing more than a money grab from the property owner. Save yourself the disappointment and hidden costs - look elsewhere for accommodation. The Sand Box Apartments fall far short of even basic standards, let alone the "luxury" experience they claim to provide.

The location was great, but the apartment was dirty. There was a cockroach in the coffee machine which was full of pods and there were food scraps in the cupboard. It was generally unclean. There was also no oven or stove - just a portable cooktop.

If they call this place a "luxury'' apartment I would hate to see their definition of a "basic" apartment. To begin with the parking space available was far too small. Damaged my hire car trying to get in to it. The external concrete stairs leading to the second level were broken in places and very dangerous. The timber flooring was just basic floor boards with rows of nail heads visible. The furniture was well passed it's use by date and not clean. The minimal kitchen cutlery and crockery were a hotch potch of unmatched pieces. The flush button on the toilet was so rusted it was difficult to get it to operate. The roller blind in the bedroom collapsed while we there management were not interested in fixing it so it was still lying on the floor when we left. Would never stay there again.

The photos of the "Deluxe one bedroom apartment with balcony - no view" don't show the full realities. The outdoor table shown is not private (our assumption) but is on a common veranda. On opening the front door, we were immediately 'attacked' by 2 massive cockroaches running around one of which ended up hiding under our bed for the night (not good). I grew up on the GC (Currumbin) so know about the Cockroach problem and what a treated and looked after property looks like. This particular appt def was not in that category. The apartment was dirty in places and well in need of a coat of paint. In summary, maybe we were unlucky however our comments about it being 'tired' and dirty in places are not unique amongst the reviews.

I’m deeply disappointed with my experience with Sandbox Apartments in Tugun, Queensland. After waiting 14 business days for my deposit to be returned, as instructed by Andre, I followed up as any customer would. The website (Google) clearly showed that the apartments were open (in green), so I called at 6:30 AM. When the call started diverting, I assumed it was too early and hung up, thinking nothing of it. To my surprise, I received a call back from the clerk's boss, who was irritated and downright rude. He was clearly angry that I had woken him up, and his condescending tone made me feel as though I was the one at fault for following up on a service I was owed. I explained that I only called because their website listed the apartments as open, and the call was diverting, which typically indicates availability. Rather than understanding my situation, Jason doubled on his frustration, making me feel like my call was an inconvenience rather than a legitimate inquiry. What’s most upsetting is the lack of professionalism and the complete disregard for basic customer service. I felt disrespected and dismissed for trying to resolve an issue that should have been handled weeks ago. This kind of treatment is unacceptable in any business, especially one that deals directly with customers and their money. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend Sandbox Apartments to anyone. This experience has left me with a sour impression of the company, and I will not be returning. It's disheartening to see that such a lack of care and respect for customers exists. Updated reply from the business: The transaction was returned and yes is a pre authorisation, about the phone call it wasn’t me but anyway you did what you had to do, with reviews and complains so I won’t expect anything less than another complain, by the way you’ve stayed here so you know there’s no one at reception at 6.30 am, so don’t say I didn’t know it wasnt open. About your escalation do what you have to do, but it probably will be arriving soon if it didn’t already. It has been escalated to the bank as no resolution was found, and despite their reply, they have not returned my deposit.

After a 5 day stay here in my opinion there is good and bad. The good... The location is outstanding The beds are comfortable The inside lounges are good Booking support and reception very good. The bad... The cutlery supplied is mismatched and very limited (ie. only 3 forks supplied for a stay of 6 people, plates & bowls limited) Pod coffee machine available, only 4 pods included (at very least supply 6-8) Supplied hairdryer faulty TV aerial very dodgy Big hole underneath the artificial grass in front of unit 2 (someone will get hurt) Outside chairs, falling apart, a serious danger, most will soon collapse and someone will be hurt (please replace asap!) Bottom line, would we stay here again, absolutely, the location is great, close to beach, surf clubs, shops. The owners just need to fix some what appear to be long standing issues.

I had a wonderful 2 night stay in an ocean front apartment - the location is fantastic, the view is amazing, I loved sitting on the balcony watching the surf & soaking up the salt air. But honestly, this isn’t a “luxury” property. The layout & furniture is lovely but the whole place needs a good deep clean. For the $95 cleaning fee I expected it to be spotless but it definitely wasn’t. The windows especially are filthy, the couch has some noticeable marks & the doona on the main bed is stained & not in a cover. All the little things you would expect from luxury accommodation aren’t there - no toilet paper, no milk (even just 1 single serve longlife packet to make a cuppa on arrival), no dishwashing tablets (I wasn’t going to buy a full box for 1 wash) & the water dispenser in the fridge & filtered water tap didn’t work. There was quite obviously old (& dirty) ice in the freezer which I wasn’t game to put in my drink. I was told I could use the keysafe to lock up the keys while I went for a walk, which was very convenient, but when I returned the keysafe was unlocked & the keys were accessible to anyone who happened by. I had pretty much all my valuables inside the unit, thinking they were secure, so that was disappointing. But I got a cheap, last-minute rate & the weather was gorgeous so I enjoyed my stay overall & I would book again. I wouldn’t pay full price though. Hopefully management will read these comments & make some improvements. The property definitely has more potential.

I was really looking forward to coming down and staying 2 night on the water in luxury accommodation, but when I arrived it was far than luxury. This would be backpacker accommodation at it best! The kitchen sponge was reused, the cutlery draw was filthy, there was no big bowls for salads, no platter dishes, no wine glasses, the toaster is rusty, the coffee machine doesn’t work the jug was disgusting 🤮 the mattress on both bed are hard, no air con in bedroom, toilet cracked, shower from was not cleaned 🤮 one lap broken beside the bed, toilet paper not folded. Bloody shocking 😮 I’ll never stay here again. The picks on trip advisor looked lovely. That is false and misleading. It’s a dame shame that people go to these lengths just to get people to stay with them!
