We spent two nights at Wakax Hacienda during our trip to Mexico and were captivated by its stunning location. Nestled in the heart of the jungle, the property features a private lagoon, cenotes, and underground rivers—a true natural paradise. The hotel facilities are well-maintained and spotless. Our room was spacious and included a proper, fully enclosed bathroom (a rare find these days, complete with a real door!). The highlight of our stay was the temazcal ceremony with Adriana and her fire master. While we saw many temazcal experiences advertised during our travels, this one stood out for its authenticity and emotional depth. Adriana was fantastic at explaining each step, guiding the group, and adjusting the heat to ensure everyone felt comfortable. The fresh hibiscus drinks and a refreshing dip in the cenote afterward were the perfect finishing touches. I wholeheartedly recommend this experience—it was one of the top three highlights of our entire trip! That said, there are areas for improvement at Wakax: -Reception Communication and Organization The reception team could benefit from better coordination. Communication via WhatsApp was inconsistent, with different staff members providing conflicting answers. It’s also puzzling that the hotel doesn’t help guests book on-site activities directly, leaving them to manage it themselves. -Restaurant Food Quality and Pricing The food at the restaurant could be significantly improved. A smaller, fresher menu with better-prepared dishes would make a big difference. Some of our meals were overcooked, and we even encountered frozen bread served at breakfast. The quality of the coffee and French fries varied wildly, depending on luck. For the price, the food did not meet expectations. Without Adriana’s wonderful temazcal ceremony (and her morning yoga classes!), this would have been a three-star review.
