Karohi Haveli - A Heritage Hotel

Beautiful old haveli that has largely been retained in original state with the exception of bathroom updates. Staff extremely helpful and efficient, particularly with regard to some issues I had concerning a locally purchased SIM card. Beautiful views from the rooftop and my room. Food in the restaurant was very good. My only issue was the lack of a decent coffee machine in the breakfast room but I was told one is on its way.

After doing some research we had shortlisted Karohi Haveli mainly coz we wanted to stay close to Lake Pichola. We did take some time to find our way to the Haveli as its inside chandpole and since there was some road work going on and there was no car access to the Hotel and you have to indeed carry your luggage all the way to the Hotel from the car park which was across the walk way bridge. At the check-in we did request the attendant for cancellation of one of the rooms (we had booked 5 rooms) as one of the travellers couldn't join in and the fact we had informed the same a couple of days earlier, wherein they said they would try to adjust once we are there, but at the end they said pit was manager's decision and they wont be able to cancel the room. So we had to take the keys of the room just to keep it locked in (very strange indeed). The walk way bridge is also cluttered with objects of construction all over and not maintained at all. The back entrance of the hotel is through lane of small shops with steep slop to cover. Its an heritage building and there were two type of rooms - lake and non-lake facing. The non-lake facing rooms didnt have any view at all. The lake facing rooms were decent and we found it clean. They have a small restaurant at the terrace, but the same is very small to accommodate large number of guests. We just had breakfast and the options were limited. We did try the parathas, poha and tea. Parathas were very good especially with butter. Just adjacent to restaurant they also have open sitting area facing the lake. They do have a small mandir inside the premises, a swimming pool which we didnt use and a sitting area with sofas to relax around. The Garden could be maintained a bit more as the titles were breaking away and grass needs to be chopped. They did have some rabbits too in the garden.

By far one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in India ! No wifi, electricity shut down a couple times while I was there ! Moreover, the cleaning of the room was terrible (just made the bed nothing else) and had to ask twice the reception for them to finally do it. Staff was unresponsive. Would not recommend staying there unless you like dirty rooms and having the power off ! Food was good and they had hot water.

The location is great. Staff is responsive and helpful. The upstairs dining area is wonderful- great views. Room is very charming- good size. A large window seat with opening window. The reason I didn’t give hotel a 5 was the shower. Water never got more then very weak warm. The food in the restaurant was good. The views at nite are so worth coming here.

Currently a big construction with daily noise, they Build an elevator and a new wing Changed room 3 times due to malfunctions and smells, in every room basically something was broken Hot water issue due to small tanks Nice breakfast site on rooftop with great views, but unclean, not charming and bfast very basic Nice and friendly staff, very helpful. Even moved us 3 times due to our complaints Wifi extremely spotty and not stable All in all a clear “dont go”
