Hotel Union Øye

Hotel Union Øye is simply a magical place. The gardens, the building, the rooms, the service ... There is no hotel experience like it in Norway. The old wooden hotels in Norway have become very, very good - and Øye is one of the two or three best.

Union Oye what is the magical historical hotel. The hotel itself is in a beautiful mountainous area off the fjord furnished with period furnishings . I felt like I had stepped back in time. Staff were always there to help answer your questions and always friendly. It was a wonderful and amazing experience, and a beautiful place to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary.

My husband and I planned most of our vacation in Norway around the opportunity to stay at this lovely hotel. Our junior suite was spacious with a large bathroom. The grounds are a treat to walk around and the setting is spectacular. Breakfast is a combination of buffet with hot dishes to order off the menu. I wish I had asked for the green juice recipe before we left. We hiked most days of our stay and joked about the three sandwich lunch with fruit and dessert the hotel packed for us. No amount of exercise could work it off. Dinner was lovely either in the main dining room or the conservatory. Don't miss the history of the hotel which is preset each evening. It was well worth your time. A big shout out to the guides who helped us choose hikes, kyaking and showed us how to book the fjord cruise to Geiranger. The private sauna at the end of the dock was great too. The only flaw, if there is one, is that there is little opportunity at meals to chat with other guests. The tables feel far apart.

So thankful that this gem has been not just maintained but invested in as a little oasis in the beautiful region of the western fjords. The history of the place and who traveled to stay there is worth a visit. Our son stayed in the original building for an old world feeling and we took one of the newly built garden homes on the property - almost like a little apartment. Activities included a walk and mountain biking with a guide and in the morning we started the day by booking the sauna on the fjord (a five minute walk at most) and jumping into the water! The food was delicious and part of the experience.

Don't quite know where to start - there is nothing to fault with this hotel ( set in the most beautiful location with a jaw dropping drive to get to it ) which doesn't feel like a hotel at all. From the initial very warm welcome the entire stay was faultless. We had a fantastic time at Union Oye and made many beautiful memories that will last a lifetime! The staff go out of their way to make everything wonderful and made us all feel very special . I have to mention Helge who is just so lovely and did a fantastic job of looking after us . I wish I knew the names of all the staff but sadly didn't get them. - you cannot fault any of the staff - they don't intrude but nothing is a problem to them. They do their utmost to accommodate your every need. It is a very special place .We went as a family of seven with a 10 month old on her first o/s trip . It’s no small feat to get seven of us over from the other side of the world so thank you to all the staff at Hotel Union Oye for making it that little bit easier. The building itself, furnishings, artwork , beautiful bedding and beds,; stylish and lavish bathroom with beautiful cosmetics, turn down service each night, beautiful spaces with games and stories to share special moments together and the food and wine /cocktails - exquisite - I could go on and on . Probably the best thing I could say is just go and stay. You won't be disappointed !

Our entire experience at Union Oye was other-worldly. In one way because of the setting amongst the majestic mountains and the spectacular northern lights we were able to see. In another way because walking into Union Oye was like stepping back in time. The history, antique furniture, the candlelight and the music. We felt like royalty from another era! And in a third way because I felt swept away from my everyday life. The service was incredible—we felt cared for every minute. One extremely kind man there even helped my daughter find a good hiding spot when we were playing. And at the end of the trip when we were rushing to the ferry to beat the storm getting out of the valley, the ferry operator came up to us and said, “Are you from the hotel? They called to make sure you made it and to ask us to wait for you if not.” It was so thoughtful and above and beyond. We have been to many beautiful hotels around the world and honestly cannot recommend this hotel more highly! Last we checked it was 4 stars but in our experience it was easily 5.
