Mena Creek Flower House

This former flower farm is located just a 5-minute drive from Paronella Park and a 25 minute drive from Innisfail. We stayed in the Birdsnest Cabin which was a comfortable, well-designed studio with a small kitchenette and a comfortable bed. The kitchenette was equipped with cutlery, crockery, utensils, fridge, kettle, toaster, microwave, pots and pans etc and there is a Baby Weber on the deck. Just a step or two from the entrance is a modern bathroom with a rainshower. Despite the rural location, there’s even a reasonable WiFi connection! There’s also a shared utility area with a washer and dryer. The views from the deck are glorious and Sarah and Andrew are thoughtful hosts – we were delighted to find fresh milk in the fridge instead of the usual UHT offering. If you are looking for a rural escape, this is a great place for you to stay!

We were super fortunate with this piece of absolute paradise. Sometimes the ocean isn't the only place with a magical magnetic pull. Sarah & Andrew have created something so special and so private for others to unwind, relax and enjoy. Sarah gave us a few suggestions, among those were the 5 minute stroll to thee most beautiful, tranquil and lush leafy green, perfectly manicured open space garden. The water flowing down the pristine clear creek was an added extra to the natural beauty of Flower House. Sarah also suggested a local butcher in South Johnson for amazing meat for our bbq on the front deck. Such an impressive stay, we will definitely be back.

Absolutely beautiful views . Very tranquil and relaxing. Modern cabin and comfortable bed. Tea and coffee provided and lots of amenities to cook. Enjoyed watching the cows graze and chooks roam. We will be visiting again .

When I booked this place, I was only after an accommodation with a private bath that was near Paronella Park. But when I called to learn more about the place Sarah, the owner, talked about all the things you can do (other than visiting the Park) which helped me plan our stay better. There’s no reception area, but Sarah was there to welcome us when we arrived. She took us to our cabin and showed us how to get around the property. There are 3 self-contained cabins, ours was Curlew. While all three boasted of scenic views, we were fortunate to have had the one with the biggest deck. From there we were able to enjoy looking out the lush greenery and watching the chickens roam around. There are no cafes nearby so we brought our breakfast provisions, including coffee bags and tea. So it was treat to find a coffee press, ground and instant coffee, tea, milk and sugar upon arrival. What to do around the property: walk or hike towards the botanical garden, swim in the natural swimming hole, ride the river stream, pick fruits in season (we had pomelo), and if you have kids—- chase chickens! A 2-night stay would be ideal. You can explore the property on arrival and swim the next morning. Then head off to Paronella Park in the afternoon for a day tour and a light and sound show at night. How to get there: it’s tricky so follow Sarah’s detailed directions. We made the mistake of following our GPS and it took us through the long and winding route! But we got there in the end. It’s a 7-minute drive to Paronella Park and 20 minutes to Etty Bay, famed for its cassowaries in the wild. Our stay at Mena Creek Flower House was such a beautiful experience. It was tranquil, peaceful and just perfect to curl up in one of the lounge chairs reading a book especially on a rainy day. But there’s Netflix, too!

We spent two nights in Green Acres cottage. We were made to feel very welcome - by dogs and chooks as well. The cottage had all we could hope for in comfort and was just a short drive to Paronella Park that we were visiting.

Stayed overnight to visit nearby Paronella Park and Mamu Skywalk (unfortunately was raining when we first arrived but cleared up the next morning). A small cozy cottage with a queen bed, double sofa bed, well equipped kitchen, outdoor patio with deck chairs and dining table. Just be aware of the ants trying to get into any food left out, and the flying bugs at night being attracted to the lights (just part of normal bush tropic life). Beautiful scenery, walking amongst the flowers, fruit trees, a 5 minute walk down to the private waterhole with small rapids and clear cold water. Very friendly and helpful owners. Will definitely go back.
