What a formidable place, I cannot stress enough what a wonderful, magical and enchanting place this actually is. Directions are spot on if you follow the guidance, you drive up bumpy road (nothing too crazy but I wouldn’t do it at speed) which is in stunning, pristine woodland full of wild flowers, ferns and as it was May, bluebells. Plenty of parking outside of the building. The entrance is slightly unassuming but once you walk in you are engulfed in beautiful, majestic and period style decoration which made me feel like I was in an an episode of Bridgerton. Rod greets you and gets to know you a little bit and shows you to your room. The room itself is exquisite, with large drape curtains, Victorian style bath, beautiful furnishings and vast amounts of space. The TV was a little old but satisfactory, as I was on business and more in my room than if I was on holiday, I would have liked an upgraded tv. Plenty of hot water, fantastic shower and heavenly soft bed. I just wish I wasn’t there on business to enjoy the place more! Breakfast which is chosen the night before was divine, high quality locally sourced ingredients with real butter, fresh orange juice….the list goes on. The breakfast room is like The Antiques Roadshow but amplified. The views around the property are breathtaking, and I know there is plenty to do in the area of outstanding natural beauty. I will return again but this time for leisure to enjoy the surroundings. Evening meals are not an option but a short drive will lead you to wonderful restaurants which did not disappoint neither. A truly wonderful property, location, outstanding hosts and an enviable reputation of fantastic hospitality that does not disappoint. Oh, and it was the first time I heard owls twit-twooing at night as well!
