Hostellerie le Beffroi

The food in the restaurant is fantastic. Worth the visit for that alone! Vaison is beautiful and the market is superb. A lovely stay. A warm welcome, friendly staff. Clean room, nice bedding.

Located high above the main town, Hotel Le Beffroi is an unique and welcome experience. The main building was built in the 15th century. Although the furniture is a bit dated and the stairs are well worn, the host is wonderful and the meals are delicious. Note there is no elevator and the stairs can be challenging. Very clean and comfortable bed and linens. There is also a relaxing pool. Very much enjoyed my stay.

The location of the hotel in the medieval section of Vaison-La-Romaine is wonderful as it is an area well worth exploring for its history and beauty. It is a short walk down narrow cobbled streets to the Roman Bridge and across the Ouvèze River into the newer part of Vaison-La-Romaine. The hotel was built in the 16th century and has a fair degree of charm. My room (named "Prunus") was spacious with large windows and the bed was comfortable enough, though the decor was quite dated and tired. However, I had a beautiful view of the nearby belfry tower (Beffroi translates as belfry), which is lit up at night, and the rest of the town on the opposite side of the river. There is no air conditioning, but fans are provided and even though we were there during a heat wave, it was fine with the windows open at night. There were no traffic sounds. There is no elevator but the pleasant fellow on reception carried my bags up the curved uneven stone steps and brought them down again at the end of my stay. The breakfast was generous, served in the quite lovely garden restaurant overlooking the town. You can sit in this garden with a cool glass of white wine in the late afternoon after exploring the town. Very pleasant. I would stay there again.
