Madama Garden Retreat

Madama is an absolutely luxurious and ridiculously stylish oasis in a wonderful location in Venice. We loved everything about Madama but especially the service. The hotel booked dinner for us every night in wonderful restaurants they recommended and gave us super helpful advice. Arriving by water taxi at the private jetty was a memory we will keep forever. The rooms are all unique and beautifully designed with incredible decor with gorgeous amenities and Diptyque products in the bathrooms. Cannot recommend Madama enough for a very special and luxurious Venice stay.

We were lucky enough to stay five nights here and could not have been happier. Mara, Lorenzo and everyone else went out of their way to make sure that we had the best possible experience. The accommodation offered every possible amenity and having the mini kitchen was very convenient. The bed was perfect from our point of view with wonderful linens. While they serve a lovely breakfast and there is a Nespresso unit in the room, there is no on site restaurant. However, it's Venice and steps outside the front door is an amazing selection of great restaurants, wine bars, gelaterias, bakeries and cafes offering everything you could want. We loved the location - away from the crowds but a relatively short walk from all the sites and vaparetti stops. I understand why they call it Garden Retreat. The staff - and I hesitate to call them that as they became like friends - have fantastic advice and suggestions on things to do, places to eat and how to get there. They also were very helpful with reservations or could tell you if they were even needed. We were sorry to leave and truly look forward to returning in the not too distant future. PS Our visit just happened to coincide with the feast of San Martin (it's a treat to see all the groups of school children parading through the streets 'playing' their instruments) There is a tradition involving baking special San Martin cookies to celebrate the day and the Madama staff left one for us in our room with a printed explanation - photo attached. It was delicious

A gorgeous, atmosphere soaked hotel that is perfectly located away from the masses yet easy to get anywhere in Venice. It is extremely pricy in an already expensive city, but worth it if you decide to splurge. We absolutely loved watching the world go by in the canal views from our windows - everything from water taxis & police boats to garbage barges. A real treat that immerses you in the watery reality of Venice. One slight negative is the dim lighting in the rooms, nice for ambience but not for finding an outlet to plug into :-) A major shout-out to Mara, who could not have been more helpful and gracious when we were victims of a pick-pocket in town and lost just about all our ID and cash. Thank you Mara for your help, kindness and care when we needed it most!

We are just back from a delightful stay at The Madama in Venice. There are just just nine-rooms and it felt more like staying at a posh friend's house than a hotel. It was well away from the crowds that seem to be everywhere else in the city... I can see why it's named 'garden retreat'. Our room overlooked two canals, and whenever we were there, we just sat watching the world go by, just beneath us. Lorenzo, the manager was always available to suggest local restaurants and arrange the transport...it's been 30 years since we were last in Venice, we'll not wait that long until we are back at The Madama again.

So attentive, beautiful peaceful setting. 1st time in a boutique hotel. I usually go for more amenities but thought I would try something different. Mara the owner and Lorenzo were amazing. We arrived in the early hours of the morning and we were met by Mara who showed us to our wonderful suite and hot and cold food waiting in the room. One of the best hotels I have stayed in. Don't go anywhere else in Venice!!!

My two daughters and I stayed for three nights in July, 2022. The streets and sights of Venice were streaming with tourists. What a joy to find this gorgeous oasis from the chaos! Our two-bedroom garden apartment was meticulously renovated and decorated with luxurious fabric wall coverings, marble tiles, multi-stone floors, etc. Many restaurants and shops (including a good-sized grocery store) are within a five minute walk. As this retreat is not located in the heart of Venice’s main tourist area (a plus for us), we loved our daily 15-20 minute walks through the narrow streets and over bridges on the way to our excursions - a great way to discover more of the city. You will occasionally hear the water police and ambulance boats whizzing by, but that is Venice’s car-free reality. Sitting in the luscious, manicured garden makes you forget everything else. Lorenzo, the primary gatekeeper of this jewel, is a pure delight! We would come back here in an instant and recommend it to all who are looking for something special yet different.
