Quinta do Vallado - Douro Wine Hotel

I read so much nice reviews of this place and put this place on the last itinerary. Thinking is a great way to end for my husband’s 70th. I booked this place a year in advance, trying to understand which is the nicest room and whether they’ve a gym. Nearing to the stay, received email of the property’s dinner menu. It seems a big thing of their dinner as they keep sending and asking even though I replied each time saying dinner is too late, can they help to put it at 6pm for us as we like to head off early for hiking. Unfortunately no. On the day of check in, I’ve already told them I’m in Porto and hope my room can be ready about 1pm? Reply is also always the same, “cannot confirm”, check in time is after 3pm. On the day of check in, again I received email at 12pm on their dinner menu and asking us our ETA to their property. I told them we’re just wondering aimlessly in Porto and can we drop by 2pm so room is ready? Reply is still the same “cannot confirm at their end at even though is already 12pm. Arrival checked in was swift and easy. Property is well maintained and their gym though super small and not very clean is 24hrs. You can just go in and switched on the lights and heater/air con. They’ve a spa area which you have to book 1 hr just for yourself. Is nice gesture since there’s nothing much to do if it rains all day here. We had the Master Suite, is spacious but not easy for anyone who needs to work on their laptop. Also a shame this room faces amazing views but there’s no way you can open up this place to look at the view once you’re inside unless you open up your main door. Bathroom is just a bathtub with shower jets so not so good for older people who have difficulty climbing in and out of bathtub. The tap of the sink in bathroom is also too high, it splashes onto you when you wash your hands. Good thing is the lighting of this room one switch and room is bright! unlike many hotels you struggle with their lights and always dark. Breakfast does not have lots of selection but all good quality and is enough. Breakfast waitress are the most smiley and pleasant in this property. Always cheerful and happy. Wine tasting complimentary for each guest is good. Their wine bar is great, you go and pour yourself whatever you want and write your room number. No Uber here, so you have to get reception to call a taxi each time you want to head out, and only takes 10minutes. The railway station is about 10 Euro in taxi and lots of nice restaurants, don’t need to be constraint by the property’s fixed menu dinner. Overall is a lovely place if you want something different from a standard good hotel.

We have a wonderful 2 night stay. Great hiking on the winery property and nearby hills. Each night’s menu featured a different selection of amazing foods that they paired with their wines and ports. Friendly and attentive staff that really made our stay wonderful. We also took advantage of complimentary one hour use of their sauna and hot tub in their spa building. The winery tour and tasting was informative and we sampled more of their great wines. We booked directly with the Quinta do Vallado. Highly recommend!

Wine tasting tour was very informative. Some of the best wines that were not port in area. The port was great also, but only winery where table wine was great. A must to add for wine tasting in area. I forgot the name of our tour guide, but he was also #1 of the four tastings I visited.

Comfortable, clean and organized. A night is more than enough. Breakfast is good. Dinner is pre set. Not many options. But good There is a difference in amenities if you book through an agency or directly which I thought unfair ( I complained at the reception and checkout)

Amazing experience! Amazing guide! "Rita" was a diferential for the experience. Comiited, showed a lot of knowledge. Incredible landscape, location, surroundings and staff. tasting was veru interesting and enjoyable... totally recomend

Amazing place and people!!! My wife and I have booked the Quinta do Vallado Casa do Lago for 2 nights. After driving almost 300 miles we arrived at the Hotel around 7PM. At the wrong Hotel!!!! Yes! They have two properties, 2 hours away one from another!!!! And we were not at the one we booked... But José and his director (unfortunately I didn't get his name) were amazing and got us a room at the Quinta do Vallado for the first night and we drove next day to Casa do Lago (also highly recommended!!!). I've traveled all around the world and I can say I've never seen an organization so client oriented as Quinta do Vallado. I don't think any other hospitality company in the planet would treat us they way they did!!! Thank you so much!!! Muito obrigado!!!
