Sundown Motel

I booked (and paid in advance) for a 4 night stay at the Sundown Motel because my first choice (the Super 8) was fully booked. There are only 2 options in Watrous and the area is a popular tourist destination. When I arrived at 5:00 PM there were no cars in the parking lot. The office was open but the phone instructions were useless (no one answered) and the other phone number taped on the office window was no help either. I finally decided to go to the Super 8, hoping that maybe someone had cancelled. Luckily for me the 2 facilities are linked in some way and the extremely helpful Super 8 manager was able to make me a key for my room at the Sundown Motel. He also accompanied me there to make sure the key worked, which it did. Shortly thereafter a family with 3 kids arrived, who also thought that their reservation would be honoured. Somehow they managed to find someone who could help them. Issues that arose over the following 4 days included no coffee (I had to buy a jar of instant coffee) and when the coffee did appear, one morning there were no cups. The bed was never made, except by me and the towels were never changed. The desk "chair" was not adjustable and I had to pile two pillows on it to work on my computer.

Friendly staff. Our room was very , very clean. Great beds. We enjoyed our overnight stay. Even the sound of the trains running by was a nice nostalgic sound and by no means kept us awake. They also allow pets. We would definitely stay there again if we are in the area. Room had good heating system, plenty of hot water and good shower pressure. Small fridge, microwave and tv. Everything you would need.
