On the advice of a wedding planner, we reserved a block of rooms at the Woodland Suites. She did not know, and we were not informed that the hotel is undergoing a major renovation, outside and in, in preparation for changing to a Marriott. We used Discover to make the reservations and to check in, only to find out later that they no longer take Discover. The actual rooms we had, the few not being gutted, were comfortable and clean, though not spotless. We were told that the event room was unavailable due to remodeling. Otherwise, nothing said about amenities or the overall condition of the hotel. No sign on the outside identifying the hotel. Stacks of construction material and old mattresses just off the parking lot. Scaffolding and stripping on both sides. Construction material blocked one emergency exit. Lobby is gutted and being renovated. No lobby restroom No breakfast of any kind. Pool was not usable. Major work going on just behind the building. Housekeeping is once a week (not informed of this in advance). No channel guide. No door hanger. One room had a plastic bag with a head shot of a woman covering the smoke detector. No shower mat in a very slippery shower. I take the steps whenever I can, the second morning there was a pile of human poop in the stairwell. When I told the front desk the reaction was "That's gross". Water had a rank taste, to the point of us being advised not to drink the water and being given bottled water. Barbeque grills were filthy. Not what we expected for a wedding party, or for staying overnight. On the third day we were given the option of checking out without penalty. Staff overall seemed indifferent to the guests. Remodeling work begins at 8:00 a.m. Inside and out. Note: two of the hotels nearby are also being renovated. This property should be closed during what is a total remodel.
