The Wayside and Whisky Barn

My stay at The Wayside and Whisky Barn was truly one of the best accommodation experiences I’ve ever had. The hospitality was excellent, the atmosphere was cosy, the entrance was peaceful, there was good parking and strong Wi-Fi, plus a great location — not far from the sea (though not within walking distance) and just a 16-minute drive to Muncaster Castle, with easy access to the lakes. And the price was very reasonable. But what stood out the most to me was the immaculate cleanliness of the place. Just before entering the guest rooms, you’re asked to take your shoes off at the bottom of the stairs — and I loved that! The entire property was sparkling clean. The Wayside also holds a 5-star food hygiene rating, and the breakfast bread is homemade by Emiko herself. I found the breakfast really satisfying — perfectly spiced, with both hot and cold options available. One of my favourite features was the charming bar shelf filled with a selection of handpicked whiskies. Dear Emiko, who is both kind and welcoming, truly knows how to win the heart of a traveller and make The Wayside and Whisky Barn unforgettable. I genuinely enjoyed my stay — I hope you get the chance to go and enjoy it too!

Amazing stay, very hospitable and a great place to relax and reset. We had the pleasure of dining on one of the evenings and we can highly recommended the experience. Will definitely return.

From the moment we arrived at the Wayside and Whiskey Barn, we were made to feel extremely welcome. Everywhere was spotless. Our bedroom was well appointed with tea, coffee, biscuits and fresh milk. The bed was extremely comfortable. Emiko was the perfect host. Nothing was too much trouble, she was very knowledgeable about anything local and also about the 180+ whiskeys in the bar. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and served by the wonderful staff. All in all we couldn’t fault this wonderful find

Stayed here for the weekend in the annexe room and what a lovely, comfortable time we had. It was so clean and well presented with lovely touches in our room. The breakfast was delicious and put us on for our adventures for the day. We had dinner one evening, again delicious and lovingly all home made. Thank you Emiko and the lovely lady that was helping you, we were made to feel right at home and will def be back one day!

We stayed just 1 night at The Wayside and Whisky Barn. while traveling north to Scotland. It was our first night after a long day of travel from the US and it was the perfect antidote for 2 weary travelers! Emiko is such a charming host and the accommodations were both peaceful and comfortable. The breakfast was a great way to start the rest of our journey north. I'm sorry that we didn't have a chance to explore more of the lovely area but perhaps we will be back in the future. We highly recommend The Wayside!

Lovely stay at a wonderful, small, boutique bnb close to the sea on the western edge of the Lake District. Very clean and comfortable with delicious breakfast and the owner/host could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Plus the surrounding area is beautiful! And not on the major tourist track , which is to our liking. We very much recommend The Wayside!
