The Black Horse Inn

We called for lunch on 3rd October as attracted by the offer of Yorkshire Yapas which I'd seen on social media. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. I ordered soup of the day which was acceptable however my husband ordered the hot beef pot with Wensleydale cheese and served with a special beetroot bread which attracted him to the dish. When it arrived (45 minutes after it was ordered) it was served with a white soft roll and no evidence of cheese (although it could of course be melted in the dish). When we mentioned this the waitress said the bread delivery didn't arrive. No apology! We shan't be going back.

Just returned from a weekend stay at this inn and enjoyed it. The endeavour room was clean and spacious, beds and pillows were comfortable, good tea tray and plentiful, shower was okay and bathroom was clean. Noise from the street as we were above the alley but it didn’t bother us too much apart from early morning. Had a couple of drinks in the bar which is old and small, they were okay but a little bit dearer than other establishments nearby. All in all a good stay and reasonable priced .

My favourite pub! we visit Whitby often and paid another visit this weekend accompanied with our Dacshund Rupert. Always a friendly welcome from the team here and hands down the best French onion soup I’ve ever had (I dart across Whitby for this stuff to get a table) great selection of drinks and also lovely wine which I haven’t always found in the local Whitby bars as lovely as they are. It’s our new favourite! So reasonably priced too! You could order the full Yapas (Yorkshire tapas) menu for what it would cost for around one meal in most places. Long story short! Highly recommend.. pay them a visit and try the food it’s a lovely spot if you are in Whitby

We were advised by a friend to try out the Black Horse Inn during our visit to Whitby. It's the sort of place, that if we hadn't had a recommendation we'd probably have walked on past. It's small, there's no denying that, but we got a table in the corner of the front bar as a family were just leaving. Now for one of the really good bits. For various reasons I'm not great with large meals, my preferred dishes are Tapas type. Now, as we were in Gods Own County the lure of Yapas proved too much to resist. A good selection of beers added to the allure. We ordered Beef and Blue, Baked Yorkshire Camembert, Pork Belly, and Cheese Doorstep Toasties. Perfect for lunch for four of us, plus Nev the Kromis loved the pork belly. He also enjoyed the fuss and treats given by the landlord, a very jolly fellow. There is a slightly bigger bar at the rear of the pub which was also pretty busy. Overall a great lunch, pretty frugal and great quality.

Stayed for a couple of nights over a weekend the black horse is located on church st on the Abby side of the river near the swing bridge a great location with lots of pubs shops and restaurants at your door step as this is a small inn the rooms are also small and decor is old fashioned in keeping with the inn we had no complaints room was clean and staff friendly only slight issue for some would be room a bit noisy as it’s above the bar and facing church st we were ok with this

This is in an ideal location for access to the Abbey (via steps), shops, bars and cafes. However, it is incredibly noisy so difficult to get a good night’s sleep. The music and chat from the pub below could be easily heard in the room. Then from approx. 6am, you have the noise of the lorries making deliveries and refuse collections. There are constant reversing sirens, banging of bottles and the endless chatter. The ‘Adventure’ room is very small but clean. When using the shower for the first time, it was scalding hot. We informed a member of staff and have to say, it was rectified immediately. There are toiletries and crisps and biscuits. On check out, we weren’t asked if everything was ok, poor customer service.
