The Royal Hotel

Convient location. Welcoming, friendly reception. The room was clean with all that was required for my overnight stay. ie tv and internet. Excellent breakfast, set me up for rest of the day.

Traditional Hotel, from the revolving door, to the friendly reception, Holly (in training), crisp linens and comfortable bed. Katie & Liz in the bar, fun and efficient in equal measure. It's terrific value and i wouldn't stay anywhere else. Considering it's in the city centre, deathly quiet at night. Access to rail and Metro is excellent. Under a minute from back door to platforms.

Stayed as a solo traveller for a gig at the local theatre. Hotel has a great location on the sea front, with many restaurants close by. The town centre is only a short walk away too. My single room was quite big, clean but sparsely furnished - comfortable enough though. TV and shower were decent so couldn't complain. Staff are top notch, very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was outstanding with top quality ingredients - far better than a few 4 star hotels I've been in recently.

I had the same issues that were previously raised in other reviews. I was in the single room that had a mouldy/water stained window blind and half a curtain pole that was just hanging on so you couldn't close the curtains. There was a faint smell of dampness in the room which may have been coming from the blind but I didn't want to check too much. The bed sank in the middle as I sat on it. I did get an email when I checked out saying that they are doing a big renovation this year (which seemed to have started as the cladding at the front of the building was all off) but it really doesn't cost a lot to change a blind and curtain pole. That would at least show that the hotel is reading the reviews and trying to make a small difference. Good shower and right at the beach front. Two minutes walk from Spanish City and about ten minutes into town. The staff however were lovely and seemed to try to go out of their way to help.

Amazing breakfast included. A decent room for a couple of nights. I would recommend looking for somewhere like this over mainstream chain hotels for over nights. The room was good, I think I'd stayed here in the last 30 years as a kid. It was good enough to be comfortable until tomorrow morning. A fantastic breakfast, proper good grub, done well, at an affordable price.

Although renovations are taking place the hotel was comfortable and clean (as was reasonably expected under the present circumstances). The staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was brilliant with pleasant staff on hand and fresh hot food available. I would definitely stay here again

The property is advertised with parking included, the little detail is that it only has 4 cars to be parked, so we had to park on the side street, where you have to move the car by 9 am. The building was full of scaffolds, this is understantable since they're getting ready for the season. But inside.. the walls, doors, with loads of dirt/stains. About the bedroom. The lock seems to have been damaged at some point, we locked it from the inside with the chain since it doesn't shut when you simply closed the door. There where only 2 sockets on the side of the 2 twin beds, but next to the double bed, the only sockets available are for the night table, so you have to choose what to plug. The heater was not warming the room enough. The shower... the water from the shower was a small little trail of water dripping, I couldn't even attempt to wash my hair, and I simply told my kids to not shower as it wasn't possible, I simply washed my body as I could. The shade for the twin beds would roll down but it was out of the guide wheel, so I had to roll it back up with my hand. The window on the double bed side was filthy, it had mold, drippings on the actual window glass... The breakfast was really greasy and not much of any healthy choices. The milk was room temperature and so was everything else. I went to this hotel because it had nice reviews... but my husband pointed out that the standard of the people reviewing must consider it ok... its not nearly worth 1/5 of what we payed.

Very comfortable room and everything I needed. My only issue was the squeaky floorboards in the room and doors to corridors that also squeaked. I was concerned for other residents in relation to this. Additionally, parking is an issue, whilst it is not the fault of the hotel directly (as there is free parking elsewhere, there were two additional spaces outside that weren’t available due to a skip and excess works fencing covering one space that wasn’t necessary. Overall, the stay was a pleasure.
