The Barnsdale, Rutland

Went for a birthday lunch and we really enjoyed it. The service from CJ was impeccable and we had a really good experience working out gluten free food for my mother. They had a detailed allergy menu and even made her some gluten free scones for dessert. One thing we were confused on - we originally booked for 1.30pm but wanted 1pm and when we called to ask if it was available we were told they were full so the next available lunch time was 2pm. When we arrived at 1.30pm however, the restaurant was empty Not a big deal at all, just odd!

Just returned from a lovely little break here. But we will be back. Our room was very small but had all we needed. A lovely warm drink tray with quality tea and coffee and real milk plus a ginger liqueur to end your day with. We both enjoyed a swim at the spa, an outdoor pool just slightly heated,. To swim outside in such beautiful surroundings was a real treat Hot tubs were a delight We had a lovely dinner and two fabulous breakfasts I do like a breakfast ordered not from a help yourself The staff were all amazing, friendly , nothing was ever too much Special mention for the receptionist who I think was called Rebecca.

Excellent stay. Accommodation, food, drink and service all great. Second time 3 of us have met up there for a re-union and we will be doing it again. Great location also just a short walk from Rutland Water and the bonus was seeing a Spitfire at 50 feet pass by over the water. Wow.

We only found this hotel/restaurant a couple of days ago and knew we would like it. The menu looked good with variety to suit us both. The ambience was inviting and comfortable with tables spaced out and decor relaxing. Our food was exceptional, bread, cauliflower pop corn, crab starter followed by Chateaubriand all the food was delicious. Wine selection well thought out too, then to finish off our meal ice cream and a proper coffee. The service was also very good and a shout out to Codie one of the young ladies who looked after us. Thank you for a very lovely lunch. Sure we will be back even though we live around 110 miles away.

I was lucky enough to win an overnight stay with breakfast in a competition. I cannot understate how wonderful our stay was. The hotel is beautiful in a wonderful and relaxing setting and the staff were genuinely lovely. We used the outdoor swimming pool, hot tubs, played croquet, and watched a helicopter land outside our room in the morning. We plan to return as soon as we can.

My husband and I popped in to have lunch today. Sat outside in the sun, really lovely. I ordered the moules , as a main course, and my husband the pasta. My came in a largish pot, but when I took the lid off, it was three quarters empty. I asked the waitress to check with the chef that he hadn’t sent out a starter as a mistake. She came back and said no, it was a main course size. It was delicious , but with 22 moules, at £22, I thought it was a very mean, skimpy and expensive main course. My husbands plate was at least three times larger. I have eaten moules in many places, but never been given so few .

What an absolutely amazing hotel, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Barnsdale from being warmly greeted by Rebecca on Reception on arrival with a complimentary glass of wine. Then excellent bar service & cocktails by Tess which we enjoyed in the beautiful courtyard. Dinner was delicious with an excellent choice of wines. The hotel room was fabulous, an enormous, comfortable bed, excellent shower & fantastic amenities, the Kings Ginger was delicious!! All of the staff went out of their way to make our stay very special, you should all be very proud of yourselves. We will definitely be back, well done

I am currently having afternoon tea as part of a wedding reception. Whoever choose this place wanting congratulating. Everything seems to be absolutely spot-on. Hogroast later. Barnsdale bitger seems pretty good. We have a room for the night. Very nice, with a view of caws. This pleases me more than it really should.

I'm afraid I was a bit surprised and disappointed. Room was dusty, full of cobwebs and very cold, with some evident dampness and the loo roll holder hanging off the wall in the bathroom. Hotel receptionist was preoccupied with something else on our arrival, the restaurant did not seem to have our booking so had to make up an emergency table in the bar area, and our wine took so long to arrive that we were halfway through our mains when we eventually got it. Staff in the restaurant and checking out the next morning were very friendly though.
