The Glendalough Hotel

This hotel location is great. However, that's the only reason I would return to the hotel. The bathroom had no soap in my room, no hot water in shower. I'm vegan, the options are terrible and make little sense. To start, falafel salad, for main falafel and brocoli. It is the most ridiculous menu ever. For breakfast, there was vegan sausages but nothing else. Like no beans or hash browns etc. My non vegan friends said the breakfast was also terrible.

Terrible service, very poor presentation of food, long delay 25mins getting drinks, bartender rude. Manager spoken with, no interest really. Good young staff but no leadership supervision or training I would suggest. Should be so much better, plenty of customers. We won’t return again, obvious issues all, around us.

The hotel is in a good location if exploring the trails on Glendalough, but the hotel itself was disappointing. They rent out their parking lot, so it was challenging to find parking as a patron of the hotel. The receptionist seemed clueless and I'm not sure she understood English. The room was lackluster and plain, with very basic towels and amenities. The shower didn't drain well and the bed wasn't great. We had decaffeinated coffee in our room and asked several times for regular coffee and never received it. When we left in the morning, it was dark and everything was locked, we had to find out way out and travel to the car without any lights in the parking lot. Other than locked doors, there is no security I could see. It felt like a cheap motel and not the best for weary travelers.

Great location right on the lough so easy to start walks straight from your room instead of having to drive there first. Due to its location it is very expensive for the quality and the whole hotel is very dated. If you don’t mind paying over the odds for the location and very basic quality then it’s OK. There are a lot more cheaper B&B options in the village.

Lovely setting, beautiful scenery but that's where the positivity ends. The breakfast was atrocious, it was like Fawlty Towers had come to town, the scrambled eggs were like rubber, the bacon had so much fat on I Wouldn't have fed it to a donkey. The decor is so outdated, something like you would see in the 1960's, the carpets smelt very musty. The bedroom was ok, the sink though did block on us 3 times so we had to get the plumber out each time. The bar staff were very nice and attentive to us. I decided to go for the burger which I would have expected a lot more than just a slide of lettuce and tomato with it. I feel that if the young staff were given support and training, and if the hotel itself were refurbished, it could be a wonderful place to stay.

We arrived Saturday eavning for a food and drinks, to watch a England and Ireland match, we were greeted with a big sigh from a foreign chap behind the bar, make matter worse there was nobody in the bar part, and I mean not a soul, I was shocked at such greeting, both tv was on but not on the match, we asked could we see it, we were told they don't have remote controls, menu was shoved on the bar counter and waiter walked away as we were biggest trouble to him, I have never come across such bad costumer service especially as we were the only onse there, Rang up next day to talk.to the manager, foreign lady answered she told me that manager is not in yet and she cannot tell.me their name. Rang back later about multiple times and my call wasn't answered,I was kept waiting and waiting for ages. Nobody in that hotel didn't pick up phone all morning to buy cot my number. Call log will show this, Eventually after many more attempts afternoon, the same foreign lady answered and she told me manager suppose to be busy to come to the phone, i thinks she knew I was going to make a some sort of complaint and she ignored me. Manager never rang me back as she said she give my number, My goodness, we're have manners of costumer service gone, attentiveness never seen such carry on, Finally i am writing this review to people Who work there, if they don't like their job they shouldn't be doing it, and to think before costumer enters the building as they represent the most beautiful place in Co Wicklow, such shame to experience this.
