Hotel Sonnschein

We stayed for a ski holiday with a young family. Hospitality and food was good. Rooms were spacious although somewhat dated. The Spa and gym are excellent. Would come back. A short walk to the slopes. We rented a locker at the ski rental shop as this as closer to the slopes.

My expectations having read previous reviews were probably too high. Staff were very pleasant, rooms basic and beds very low, definitely a skiing hotel, was clean but a couple of issues. The breakfast was plentiful both cooked and continental, Evening meals were very basic and uninteresting not well cooked in fact better for us to eat out in daytime although on a breakfast evening meal basis. The hotel was up the mountain quite a way from the village shops and a very long walk.

Not a 4 star hotel. 2 people got food poisoning at the hotel and that had happened before apparently. Place was like a building site. Swimming pool should be open all year round. Food offerings weren’t very good, pretty certain the buffet made people ill. All drinks paid in cash (?). Wouldn’t recommend.

We stayed for 8 nights on a Leger tour. At no time did we feel "just part of that coach group" but instead as welcomed individual guests. The room was spotless, well equipped and spacious, with a balcony looking out on beautiful scenery. There was some construction work on a new annex which wasn't the prettiest, but only detracted slightly from the experience. It was very hot during our time there, which, with no aircon, needed mountain breezes to make nighttimes bearable! The breakfast buffet had practically every hot and cold option imaginable in generous supply - everything well prepared, presented and tasty. We ordered our dinner options at breakfast with a selection from 3 main courses (one vegetarian). The other courses - soup, salad buffet & dessert - were fixed, although ice cream was always available if requested. No course was repeated during our stay and every course was well presented and delicious. Drinks were available from the bar or at the table. Most were reasonably priced (for a 4* hotel) except for bottled wines, which were about double the price you'd pay in a UK restaurant. All-in-all we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

This was our second visit this year. We were so impressed with the hotel in January that we decided to book direct with the hotel, we even stayed in the same room! Many thanks to Emily and Brigitte who looked after us during our stay. Once again the hotel was fabulous, great food, wellness area and large rooms. We agree with other reviewers that the adult pool did have children at times with whom certain ones were not supervised by the adults and were jumping into the pool. Fortunately this was only for a few days. The adult pool was considerably warmer than the family pool which was puzzling. Please can you add a humidy dial in the smaller sauna? The staff were all welcoming and pleased to see us once again, we even had a visit from Tilly the cat! Good luck with the new building. We could hear the building work whilst getting ready in the morning, but they had finished by 5ish so not really a problem. The only down side is that we were promised that basic breakfast would be available on the last day as we had to get an early bus and train, but nothing was working or left out for us. Herbert thankfully came to the rescue on the Saturday bless him, and switched on the coffee machine and found us some bread. We would cetainly recommend this hotel and will be returning soon - please get the gluhwein machine working as this makes really great drinks.

My sister and I have just returned from a week at this wonderful hotel. We arrived on the 24th February for a weeks skiing. From arrival to departure we were looked after so well. Our rooms were in the lower floor and not the newer rooms, but they were immaculate, absolutely spotless . Beds and pillows so comfortable. On arrival one of the radiators in the room wasn’t working and we felt quite chilly ( an early start and tiredness didn’t help) within 10 minutes Emily bought a heater to our room which was extremely effective. The shower was brilliant, in fact one of the best most powerful showers I’ve used. All the staff were so friendly from reception, housekeeping and restaurant staff, a real credit to the hotel. Emily went around the restaurant every evening to enquire about the guests day and took a real interest in all. The food was wonderful. Breakfast buffet was plentiful and so much choice and set us up for the day. The evening meal was selected at breakfast with a choice of 3 main meals, soup, salad and dessert. Presentation was amazing. If this is a gushing review I apologise, but I really feel that it is deserved. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel, and feel that the only thing that would have added to our stay would have been more snow, but sadly this is not in the control of the Sonnschein Hotel, however feel that they would if they could!
