Don't be put off by the unimposing entry. This motel is currently being renovated and so far they are doing a good job. New comfortable beds, new flooring, new quite air conditioning and freshly painted. Lots of big fluffy towels. The bathroom , although spotlessly clean, does need some attention which I guess will come. However the whole property was spotlessly clean and the owners really friendly and accommodation. Great for an overnight stay and close to everything..

Absolutely amazing place! Management were so lovely and friendly, rooms were neat and tidy. Beds were lovely, linen was spotlessly white! Showers were interesting but once you learn where the water is from, it makes sense! And bonus, Pets welcome!!!

One night stop over on way from Melbourne to Darwin. The room we had was clean, comfortable, everything worked, plenty of tea, coffee, etc provided. Met all our needs for the night. Close to pubs and shops. Off street parking was available even though we had a camper trailer attached to our car. Staff very friendly and helpful.

We recently stayed one night here in a queen room while travelling through. We were a later check-in, however that was not a problem. Jay was very friendly and accommodating, our room was spotless and perfectly adequate for our needs. Short walking distance to the local pubs for dinner and breakfast. We would definitely stay here again.

If I could give less than 1 star I would. Wifi didn’t work. Visible black mould all over the bathroom roof. A clear health hazard to my son (who has a mould allergy) and pregnant wife. Beds were some of the worse I’ve seen. Tv reception was horrible plus the tv picture was damaged. Went to reception to ask for a refund as we simply couldn’t stay in a room with so much significant mould with my sons allergy. She said “it’s not mould. It’s just worn paint”. But if you want a refund you will need to contact wotif and they will need to contact us to do that. Found public wifi in town to contact Wotif. Who then contacted Matilda Hotel. To which she said “we can swap them to a different room (which was never offered at the time). At this stage we already had to book another room in town. Owner refused to refund and said “tough luck”. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. If this was the last motel in town. I simply would not stop in Winton

Matilda Motel, Winton. What can I say - Room needs a good clean, sheets were okay, but the rest !!! luckily we had our picnic basket so did not use any utensils just the kettle. The shower - what can I say, the base was cracked we did not use it. I know now why so many people caravan and dont use motels, our experience of accommodation in travelling further than Emerald is a no no.

On booking in to this establishment for a booked 2 nights,we were informed that only one night was available,and that we could use a bed and breakfast house for the second! Very unsatisfactory on behalf of the management. But Janice Evert's B and B proved to be a great experience,with the nicest hosts one could hope for- travellers might like to head straight there instead of the very basic Matilda Motel.

Not sure how many rooms they have renovated but it certainly wasn't the room we were given. Barely room to move with ancient mattresses on the beds. Wiifii not working. Positive - linen clean If they had asked for $100 no problem but ripping people off in tourist season for $140!!! Would advise any potential buyers to not buy sight unseen
