Xi'an Bell tower Madison Hotel

If I had known the hotel allows smoking in all common areas like hallways, elevators, laundry, gym etc I never would have stayed here. The smell of cigarettes was everywhere. We often walked through a haze of smoke to get to the elevator. There were even people smoking in the gym and laundry right next to clean washing. Aside from that, the walls were so thin you could hear every word from your neighbours. The location is excellent for tourists and sightseeing, very close to the bell tower, food and convenience stores. Beds are very hard and room cleaning was just ok. Often didn’t provide more toilet paper or towels.

It's 5 minutes walk from Bell Tower. The hotel offers robot food delivery.

We are a family of tourists travelling from New Zealand and stayed here for 4 nights. The hotel is in a handy location to lots of the amenities around Xi'an like food and shopping, and a short walk to the bell tower. Pros - close to some great food places (check out the hand pulled noodle place across the road, delish!) - room is spacious - room was clean - provided in room amenities eg fresh linen, toiletries, bidet toilet, water/beverages - buffet breakfast included with room with range of western and traditional food - laundry machines Cons - IF YOU ARE SENSITIVE TO SMOKING THEY ALLOW SMOKING ALL THROUGH THE HOTEL AND IT STINKS - the beds are rock solid - the rooms do not have air conditioning, only a positive air system that pushes regular air around. We frequently had to have the front room of the door open just for air flow, though with the cigarette smoke and overnight this was difficult - the rooms are not soundproof and there was frequent banging all day and in the evenings - booking said it included afternoon tea, this was not the case and may have been a translation issue - the breakfast hot food is not kept hot Overall, while we didn't have a terrible time here, and the staff were pleasant enough and the rooms were clean and presentable with decent bathrooms, we wouldn't recommend staying here if you are travelling with children or are sensitive to cigarette smoking. Had we known smoking was permitted inside we wouldn't have stayed here.
