Burton Villa Guest House

Arrived and checked in no problem . Nice old Victorian B&B .. clean tidy & presentable (no mould or smells anywhere I went ) can’t understand some people’s comments. Owners were friendly and fine and just let you get on with what you wish to do. I was in a Minibus so parking was no good however owner said go over the road 100yrds to Jaipur Spice Indian Restaurant spacious car park let me stay 24 hours for £5.50 a bargain 😊I booked a meal there 6pm also was delicious. Shower was standard size as normal fresh towels no smells loads of teas coffee & milk with kettle . Comfortable beds lovely warm room and breakfast was great too . I’d stay again no bother and if you’re looking for 5 star mod cons then don’t be stupid enough to book a terrace Victorian house with all its amazing original characters/features for this price then whinge on about what’s not there . This place is fine from what I saw .. no noise was very quiet also

Lovely Little Guest House on the outskirts of York. Very comfortable room ("superior double"), with fantastic shower and free wifi. Superb freshly-cooked breakfast. Spotlessly clean throughout. Manager and staff all very friendly and helpful. An easy ten minute walk into the town centre. Only downside could be the parking. The bays are small and can fill up quickly, but the manager helped us when we had a problem with this. Recommended.

My Personal experience of Burton Villa was fantastic. Clean and simple . Lovely room and very helpful and attentive polite staff . I was Staying away to perform in a local theatre company , so i was more busness . Very handy for York Centre. Also near a Laundrette for those on long trips away . Great bathroon and lovely breakfast. The staff also provided me with an iron when i needed one with thier helpful manner, Its a b and B , Im surpirsed to read bad reviews but some people are spoilt brats. If your a easy going soul like me , Its perfect.

Absolutely terrible. This place is a joke - I cannot understand how anyone could live with themselves providing such low standards and charging so much money. I asked them to recognise the low-quality experience by providing a partial refund, and they steadfastly refused. I highly recommend completely avoiding this place. 1 - I didn't expect the bathroom to be so small it was actually impossible to turn around in. 2 - I was caused injury, with bleeding, by the sharp edges of the shower, which were somewhat unavoidably caught when drying oneself in the extraordinarily cramped space. 3 - The bedsheets didn't fit the beds, and one of the beds had been dressed with the top bedsheet inside out. 4 - The quality of the bedding was extremely low. I suffered a great deal of itching during my stay, most likely due to this, though perhaps it was because of an insect infestation? I slept very poorly. 5 - There was a lot of loud banging during the stay. This included the poorly designed (or installed) door-closing mechanisms. However, there was also banging noise due to renovation works, something I most certainly was not expecting during my stay, and which disturbed my rest. 6 - The towels smelled strongly of mould. 7 - Despite having hanged the 'please service the room' sign up on both days before going out for many hours, the service wasn't done. On the second day we were informed that it couldn't be done as we were present, though of course, we could have left the room for half an hour again, as indeed we had done for several hours earlier that day. 8 - The Internet connection was not always reliable enough to stream video. 9 - Despite it being a twin room, they insisted they only had one set of keys. That's clearly absurd and caused a great deal of difficulty for us during our stay. They must, of course, have others, for servicing and safety, but they refused to cut a set.

I would describe this place as ‘no frills’ The decor is old and tired, the rooms are up a steep rickety staircase. Everything we needed was in the room but there was mould around the bath and cobwebs in every corner. The bed was very comfortable. The shower was poor and slow. The owner pesters everyone to pay cash or do a bank transfer which is annoying. The breakfast was tepid and tasteless and the sausages poor quality. Easy walk into town, and parking ( in very narrow bays) is available if you book early. Right at the top of its money (£338 for 3 nights) considering the Travelodge is only £261.97. The staff watched as we struggled downstairs with our bags and didn’t even open the door for us. As I say….no frills

Out of the hundred or so hotels we have stayed at since reviewing on TripAdvisor, have we come across a such disgraceful business practice. Booked 2 rooms some 3 months ago via Booking.cm, only to be informed 4 days to our stay that they have cancelled our booking due to 'previous customer had damaged the room and a plumber with a part required' (why both rooms?). The cancellation email had no name and was unsigned, no alternative accommodation suggestions or helpfulness was offered. We rung the guesthouse to confirm the email and to enquire about the 2nd room, where the person whom answered was very abupted stating they can't make any comments regarding cancelled bookings, this made the situation look very suspicious upholding our belief of a poorly run business. Previous reviewers from Tripadvisor have also had cancellations of bookings with differing reasons. Save the hasselment of having to seek out last minute availability, simply DON'T BOOK HERE.
