Allegro Madeira - Adults Only

What a beautiful place. For the price I paid it cannot be faulted.

Having stayed at this hotel in August last year when attending a wedding on the island during a very hotel spell we decided to return and again chose to stay at the Allegro as it is a good base. There is a lot to recommend about this hotel. We have booked an upper floor junior suite both times These are much bigger than the regular rooms. Cleaned daily to a high standard. A couple of small disappointments - last time we got a litre bottle of water daily this time it was only on arrival. Also the coffee pods fir the Nespresso machine were replaced as used but this time it was just the four on arrival. We were bed and breakfast most days the breakfasts were very good, but just occasionally the plate warmer wasn't switched on and this made a huge difference. The fried eggs were cooked well in advance and sometimes there are quite cool. The bread is fresh every morning and just lovely. Lots of other choices too. The pool area is very clean and we always got sunbeds. A lot of the customers seemed to go out for the day on various trips. This is not the prettiest of hotels but it is handy near bus stops and shopping centres

Fantastic location so close to bus stops and tour operators. We found it so easy to get into Funchal and take excursions from the locations. The breakfasts weren't very fresh aside from the cooked food. For example the juices seemed watered down but was fine, just nothing special. And it was close to some great brunch places and restaurants so didn't really matter. Expect to hear people moving around the hotel as the corridors can echo quite a bit but mostly people were respectful of others sleeping. Maybe bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper. Rooms were clean and staff were really lovely. We didnt use the facilities at the hotel as spent most of our time exploring Madeira which was the reason for choosing the hotel. Good value for a good location. We also loved our balcony and sea view. We got takeaway pizzas from just down the road and enjoyed the sunset wasting pizza on the balcony.

One night in Allegro before catching the ferry to Porto Santo. We got a sea view room, very pleasant and the air conditioning worked, which was essential that day :) Super kind lady at the check-in and altogether a lovely experience. One funny thing - since we had to leave very early in the morning, they offered us a breakfast bag to go. Great, I thought, so thoughtful. 3 times we mentioned 'no meat', 3 times they confirmed, and yet, the sandwiches with ham were packed.. Anyway, good choice and no regrets. Try the rooftop bar - very funny guy runs the place!

This was a good hotel find for those on a budget. It was also one of the only places that didn’t have the crazy policy of completely nonrefundable bookings for an island where planes may have issues landing due to weather conditions. Service was good and the room was comfortable with a fridge which is useful. The only thing that bothered us is that i paid for an oceanview room but got a partial view with construction cranes. The view from some of the rooms is not the best, lots of construction currently around the hotel and the hotel should be more upfront about this. I could see in the future the view from our room 712 may not even exist as there is a building being built there. Breakfast was decent, nothing special. The rooftop is very nice for drinks in the evening for sunset.

Very good location, close to shops and bus service into Funchal. Staff friendly and helpful. The room on the 6th floor had lovely sea views. I think the room could have benefitted from a bit of a refresh, there were marks on the walls and the bathroom was in need of some repair. However, the food was AMAZING!! The choice at breakfast and dinner was really good, including cooked to order food. Staff very friendly and efficient. A good stay, most enjoyable.

Amazing sea views from our room. Hotel is in a brilliant location, 5 minutes walk to Lido , 30 minute walk in centre of Funchal but only 10 minutes by bus which were frequent and cheap. Lots of good places to eat close by in a bustling area. Hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful . Room was spotlessly clean and serviced daily. Breakfast was amazing - great choice and omelettes/ eggs cooked to order.

What can I say but disappointed, we have stayed in many Barcelo hotels before, they were way better than this one, this is NOT A 4 star hotel, 2 star at best, and that's being kind. The staff were excellent. The food was very good. The hotel very SOLELESS and old hotel refurbished and NOT finished , I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANYONE. DAY 1 , yellow sofa in the room covered in DIRTY FOOTPRINTS and big BLACK STAINS. The DRAWERS were broken. Then 2 days in a row we had bath towels that were full of HOLES. That was the FINAL straw , a very big showdown with the manager, I now have an appointment with the CEO next week to discuss things further. The best thing they can do is knock it it down and rebuild it.
