Staybridge Suites Detroit-Utica

This place IS NOT a three star hotel! I checked in saw the disgusting condition of the hotel and my room and checked right back out and went to the Hyatt! The bathroom mirror had water marks like it hadn't even been cleaned since the last person left! Sat on the couch and went right to the floor. Terrible condition.

Easy review - I am IHG Platinum Elite - booked online and reserved 2 bed room and secured with credit card. Arrived and was told room unavailable and all they had left was a 1 bed room (there were 3 of us - one being an 82yr old). Santesha at front desk said they had to release it because they had a wedding booking. Really? You've lost me as a long-time customer. Would love a reply from the GM on how to rectify with restitution....

Maybe I haven't had enough bad customer service experiences at hotels before, but this was unbelievably terrible. Tobias, the night desk agent, told us our reservation was considered a no-show because he had already switched the system over to the next day (we arrived late). However, their policy per my confirmation email was that we could check-in anytime. He said we could just pay for another room (i.e. pay twice). No managers were available until two days later supposedly. Horrible hospitality. I live in the area and will tell any visitors to stay literally anywhere else, even in a car or on a park bench before patronizing this nightmare inn.

Uncomfortable beds, mold in the bathrooms, $75 for a 9 pound pet that doesn’t shed that’s almost as much as a person like 75% ridiculous. Didn’t see it in the reservation and they didn’t either until I brought my pet in and they lost it about the $75. Couch was way too small. They said I got an upgrade but it was definitely a downgrade. Kitchen crew woke us up at 5:45 AM across the hall and didn’t shut up until 930 when breakfast was done. It was terrible it was dirty. There was food in the fridge from whoever was there before. pictures on the website did not represent the rooms at all except for the front door and lobby. If I’m going to pay that much for a pet deposit, I’m definitely not staying at that piece of crap again. To clarify, I put it in the reservation and nothing changed in the price and nothing popped up about $75 except pet friendly. I could be wrong but I studied it 10 times as I travel with my dog the time

Hotel needs some updating as the paint is peeling in the bathrooms, stains on the walls, damaged surface of the toilet seat etc. The sheets and towels were clean and the beds were comfy but overall the room was not clean. There were crumbs on the floors, the tv remote controls were nasty and even the paper towel holder in the kitchen was dirty.

Front desk clerk Buba almost ruined our entire family reunion. Thanks to IHG corporate and two hours of work around to bypass Buba’s “policy” of not allowing secondary guests listed on the reservation to check in, the trip was a success and we enjoyed the hotel and the other friendly and helpful desk clerks. Supposedly Buba was acting at her managers direction, when I called the manager had “just stepped out” but never returned my call at all over the three day time from I was waiting for it. Again IHG corporate assisted and the manager and desk clerk Buba did not. My secondary guests were listed in the reservation and they had copies of the reservations with their names on it, but Buba stated it was not the policy to allow the secondary guests to check in due to fraud concerns. IHG corporates stated to me that IHG guests collect points for stays and can use the point to book rooms for family and friends as long as the other person is listed on the reservation (they were) there should be no problems. They also stated that they validate my account and attempted to assure Buba that there was no fraud. Anywhooo Buba (and the manager?) need some coaching and education. I am a diamond member and never had that happen at any hotel and hope it never happens again. I’d rate Buba and manager 0/5 but the other workers and the hotel itself are 5/5.

PROS: Location. The hotel is in a quiet residential area close to restaurants and shopping Exterior: charming for a chain hotel. Nice courtyard Room size: spacious 1 and 2 bedroom suites. Adequately equipped kitchens Beds: comfortable, though a little soft Breakfast: good choice of hot and cold foods. Crispy bacon! Public areas: cozy and welcoming CONS: Upkeep and maintenance: Bathrooms in particularly bad shape. Peeling cracked paint on walls. Bathtubs with no slip base not scrubbed properly resulting in gray residue on the base. Lack of attention to details: First room we stayed in did not have any working phones. Staff seemed indifferent to this security issue. Reported the problem twice. Apparently maintenance staff was not available to on the weekend. Finally offered us a different room upon my mentioning that I would chat with the manager on Monday. New room had lamp shade in living area dangling by one hook. This is not something housekeeping could have missed. It's just lack of caring. Bedding, though clean, had visible staining on the sheets. These sheets should have been replaced. Not up to Staybridge standards based on other Staybridge locations we've stayed at.

Before I get into the review for this hotel, please note that we have stayed at other Staybridge Suites in the past (St George, Utah and someplace in California) and had a positive experience and pleasant stay. We booked a stay here and arrived super late in the evening. We booked the two bedroom suite (two double beds in one room and a king in the other). The rooms are large in size and the suite has plenty of space with a living area separating the bedrooms. Once we arrived to this hotel room, it was clear that this room (and hotel) had not been deep-cleaned in a long while. We immediately called down to the front desk and requested a refund and ended up booking elsewhere and left that same night. Let me tell you when I say this room was bad, it was bad. There were spiderwebs both in the room and in the hallways, fingerprints on the kitchen cabinets and refrigerator, foot prints, broken toilet, unhinged closet door, dirt marks, dirty carpet, and probably more filth if I spent more time in the room looking. I took a few pictures but quit after awhile because it was never ending and the pictures don't really don't do it justice. It was dirty. I knew that we could not stay here as we have young kids. Super disappointing as the layout of the room was exactly what we needed.
