This is an interesting hotel within the Renmin Square precinct. It is not actually a 'people's square' in the conventional sense but an official precinct of grand sandstone and marble buildings erected in 1957. The buildings are majestic but the interiors are a little dated and tired. Our rooms were well furnished with very comfortable beds, well-functioning heating, air conditioning and bathrooms. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful, and assisted us with tourist information and transport. Breakfasts were good with a reasonable variety of dishes. Rooms were suitable serviced each day. I liked the quiet atmosphere of this hotel, its landscaped surroundings, and its close proximity to the CBD. It took us 20 minutes to walk to the Bell Tower and 30 minutes to the ancient city wall. Some of the staff spoke fluent English which was very helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

POSITIVE:
- Grand Mercure Xian Renmin Square Hotel is located in the city center of Xian (about 10-15 min by bike to the city wall)
- The hotel service is super nice and helpful. Checking in took a bit long, but that's not a bad thing.
- The rooms are super clean.
NEGATIVE:
- The spa area is not directly in the hotel. You have to leave the hotel and cross the street to another building.
- Pool and spa area are super cold so you can't rest and relax there.
- The sauna has to be booked in advance. As it is a shared spa area. Sauna was completely booked out and cannot be used.
- Price for the hotel too high due to the uncomfortable/cold spa area.

This is not the first time I have stayed at this Grand Mercure.
As usual a very good choice.
Helpful and welcoming staff.

Very nice hotel located in a private luxury area. The rooms are big, the staff are really helpful and speak decent English.

It is a wonderful option to stay in XiAn. The staff was super friendly and gentle. They helped us to resolve all our doubts and to get a couple of taxis to get to the train station and airport on time. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Breakfast is served from 6:00 with very good Chinese and Western menu options. Definitely a place to return to.
P.s Just don't confuse it with another Mercure that is about 500 meters away and is from the same hotel operator.

It is an old building. If you are out and about and do not spend a lot of time in the hotel, this is a decent hotel as it is near to a lot of places.
