This is my third stay, I had a free upgrade room to Deluxe room, that was really great.
For the first two times, I was talking about feeling too cold after shower as cold air from the room will be going into the bathroom through the airventilated door. This time, the room is too warm, the temperature inside the bathroom after shower is just nice, but too warm to sleep at night, covering the quilt makes me too warm, without it would be too cold. Told the receptionist couple of times and they said maintenance had tried to turn it on to the max but the speed was still slow. However, I have a friend staying for the same night in different room, the fan speed of the air-conditioning in his room was really strong. I guess there's something wrong with the air-conditioning in my room.
Other than that, everything's great.

Room was spacious and very clean. Very comfortable with 2 pillows each bed. Toilet also very clean and has enough towels for 3 of us.
Hotel staff also was very friendly and helpful especially during check in. Breakfast buffet not many choices of food but still enough to make stomach full.
Location wise very good. Near to Pasar Philippines and next to Central Point mall. Easy to get anything around there.
Had a very pleasant stay and will consider coming back.

Overall, the stay was okay and met basic expectations. The facilities provided were reasonable considering the price, so it’s fair not to expect too much. However, cleanliness—especially under the beds—needs more attention, as it was quite dusty. With better housekeeping in this area, the experience could be improved. That said, for a reasonably priced stay with adequate facilities, it is acceptable.

This Hostel has a lot of potential, the beds were nice enough, but with visible wear & tear in the rooms, stained curtains/crumbling paint work. The bathrooms were nice enough, although soaps & shower gels were not topped up during my stay. After inquiring about the laundry room which is highly advertised, I was informed it’s broken, then entire room… which was one of the main appeals to me. On the plus side, a lovely rooftop bar, and a good restaurant serving well priced and tasty meals. With a little TLC this hostel could be fantastic.

We had a very pleasant stay at Cityinn Hotel with our family. It is a new hotel and everything feels fresh, modern, and very well maintained. The room was spotless, you can really feel that it’s clean and new, which made us very comfortable staying there with our family.
All the basic needs were thoughtfully provided, from toiletries to clean towels and comfortable bedding. The room layout was practical and cosy, perfect for a family stay. The environment was quiet and relaxing, allowing us to rest well.
Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay. Cityinn Hotel is a great choice if you are looking for a clean, new, and comfortable hotel for a family trip. We would definitely consider staying here again on our next visit.
I booked this hotel for one night. The location is not very convenient as there aren’t many food options nearby, but it is quite close to the airport. Due to our flight timing, we arrived at the hotel earlier than usual. We understood the official check-in time, so we politely asked if there was any chance of checking in earlier. If not, we were willing to wait, we only hoped they could let us know once a room became available.
There were two counters. We were initially at the second counter (one next away from the 1st counter), but the receptionist asked my husband to move to the first one. No issue, we moved over as instructed.
During the check-in process, the male receptionist repeatedly asked whether I booked online. I answered yes, yet he asked the same question again. Since he already had my IC in his hand, I expected he could see the booking details in the system. I honestly didn’t understand why he kept repeating the same question.
I then politely asked if we could get a room earlier should there be any available. Instead of responding in a friendly or helpful manner, he kept repeating, “Our check-in time is 2pm,” more than three times over our check-in process. We clearly understood the check-in time, but his tone and attitude were not friendly at all. A simple “If we have a room available, we’ll try to arrange it for you” would have been enough, but instead he just repeated the same answer without any consideration.
On top of that, both receptionists, the male and the female were chatting and laughing among themselves at the counter in front of guests, which felt quite unprofessional.
Still, we were thankful that we eventually managed to get our room at 12:35pm.
Overall, the experience was disappointing and lacked basic hospitality. I’ve been travelling and staying in different hotels, and I’ve never encountered service this unfriendly before.
När du bor på Stanton Borneo Hotel kommer du att vara perfekt positionerad för att utforska allt som Kota Kinabalu har att erbjuda.

Honest Review:
The duo room is just nice for a family trip. There are both pros and cons.
Cons:
Mattress condition – The mattress needs to be replaced ASAP. It’s not firm, and you can feel the pocket springs.
Air-conditioning issue – The AC in my room (702) was leaking and not cold while in use. We contacted the host, and the owner came the next day to fix it. While I appreciate the help, the cooling was still not satisfactory and clearly needs proper servicing.
Parking problem – Parking is a major issue. Even if you try to park outside, there’s almost zero chance because most spots are reserved by restaurants or property owners. The only option is basement parking with hourly charges and no maximum cap.
First 2 hours: RM2.50
Subsequent hours: RM1.50 per hour
We paid nearly RM17.50 for about 11 hours. If your car doesn’t move, the charges continue until you leave. This is expensive and very inconvenient.
4. This 7th floor due rooms is facing main road building which look nice view, but very noises while during night you may hear the car road noise.
Pros:
Shower water pressure is great.
The pantry is spacious and hygienic.
Free access to Netflix on the TV.
The host is helpful and willing to assist.
Overall:
I would rate this place 50/50. If you’re traveling to KK mainly for places like Imago Shopping Mall and not driving your own car, this place is acceptable. However, if you’re driving, I would not recommend staying here due to the parking issues and high cost.
That’s all I want to share. Thank you.

The hotel is located at a strategic location with lots of eateries downstairs and close distance by car to various attractions. Hotel room is clean with toiletries and mineral water provided. Can hardly hear any noises from the road despite it is situated next to a road, hence we all had a good sleep. A manual was also provided to facilitate the check in process, response from the person in charge is also swift. Overall is good.

AAnonym användareI request room near lift and near receptionist no corner room unfortunately I get room far from lift and receptionist and get corner room.
Air bertakung di dalam bilik, jadi kurang selesa 😢
AAnonym användareBooked for romantic tent, same like the ad. Looks like a brand new tent, because the colour is still white compared to the others which is already yellowish and got a bit mould. Romantic tent have no shade, so the light shines through into the tent. Even so, the tent doesn't feel hot, the portable aircond keeps it cool inside. asked for keetle from the receptionist. need to ask for keys for private bathroom as they are having renovation during our stay.
GGästanvändareThey do provide drinking water in bottles but do not have the refill centre. However, the location is really good. Will stay again in this hotel in the next visit to KK. Also, can hear vehicle sound in the night.

TL;DR: This place feels more like a meditation centre than a hotel, it will not provide you with supplements. It's a bare room. You need to bring toothbrush&paste and buy drinks somewhere as it is not provided. No tv and fan. No in-house restaurant. There are mosquitoes at the garden near afternoon, and the balcony at night, but there are no insects in the room (family room). In exchange you will get a very clear and vivid Mt Kinabalu view in the near-dawn morning (where there is no mosquito), a working shower with heater, concrete floor that reduces nearby noise, and cold foggy experience.
Long:
This place is within the fog path so you will get the foggy experience. You can also see Mt. Kinabalu at the right time and it looks quite close (e.g. dawn 6 a.m.). You can even see the electric towers and resthouse, it's that close. Moreover, this place is more like a meditation centre than a hotel. It is visibly run down probably since covid as that is also when the in-house restaurant got closed down. Considering my experience as a recurrent visitor of Kundasang, mosquito has always been the least of my concern. Somehow this place has lots of them. We got bit quite a lot in a short span of time.
Undesirable / Cons:
-No water kettle, no supplements (water bottle, coffee pack, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.). Porcelain mugs are provided though
-No in-house cafe/restaurant but nearby has a few (400 meters at least)
-No tv, no fan but cold in general
-Quite a lot of mosquito and moths outside at the garden place in the afternoon and at the balcony connecting the 2 buildings at night. There are no electric zapper.
-Seems a bit run down at the garden. 2 broken board pieces on the floor for example.
-It has no Qibla for muslim people, at least in family room
Desirable / Pros:
-Big room. Not smelly
-Is cement board floor
-Big single beds. Not smelly
-Clean bed. Fluffy cover.
-Water heater is working for family room at least
-Relatively clean inside room and at reception. No insects in room. No weird bugs around.
-Has a table and chairs in room
-Lots of electrical port
-Wifi provided by hotel is strong (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz
-Very near main road. So good road going towards the hotel
-Aki-Aki trail starting point is nearby. Plan to go next time so no experience as of this review
This place is not too bad. Not too good either. Personally, I wouldn't place this as my top place for the foggy and view considering other options but I don't mind returning if necessary. It will sure be much much better to highly recommended with much needed renovation and have some methods to deal with those mosquito.
p.s. There's a cute puppy that invites you at the entrance. 😂
p.s.s. I saw a greater coucal gliding into the forest in the morning!
SSamantha been stayed here for many times.. every time come visit kk will only choose this hotel due to its located in between Suria shopping mall and Wisma Merdeka and by walking distance to Gaya street .. however please take note this hotel a bit rundown due to years
GGästanvändareIt's a little out of town but I chose it for the close proximity to the beach and swimming ,which is about a 10min walk from the hotel. There are street food and drinks stalls available from about 3pm . Tanjung Aru beach is beautiful, uncrowded and the beach shelves away gently making it a safe swimming area. However, the beach had rubbish washed up and maintenance isn't a priority I guess. I swam everyday and didn't get sick ,that's a bonus.
The room ( the whole place)was tired looking, it could do with a lick of paint and maintenance. Room was clean when I got there but I strongly doubt it was cleaned in the entire time I was there for five days. Often had to ask for toilet paper , shampoo and shower gel , and coffee sachets etc ,basics to be stocked whenever housekeeping does their cleaning. Air con worked for me although the settings couldn't be altered !
The bed springs creak and you feel the springs when you sit on the bed but I slept ok only because I was usually exhausted from the day's activities . The beds and mattresses definitely need renewing though.
The fridge was mouldy and smelly , what a blooming shame : /
The safe was broken - hallelujah!
I kept my room door locked at all times only because Reception staff hardly looked up to see who comes and goes- they sit very low, almost out of view at their front desk. I wasn't convinced about their perception of safety especially as I'm a solo female traveller and I need to be alert and take great caution.
Casuarina Hotel are you taking note?
Reception is helpful but that depends who is present.
Lifts work fine without too much of a wait. The cafe on ground level serves an American breakfast but I couldn't tell you whether that's worth your while. It looked like Mary Celeste everytime I peeped in there so wasn't convinced about getting fed or a service. Therefore, I had fruit and snacks as standby .. There's a lovely restaurant a few yards from the hotel called the Yolo Seafood Restaurant which tends to open from 11.30am- delicious and inexpensive with friendly staff.
Grab taxi fare to city centre varies from MYR 7- 25 Ringgit ,the higher tariff if returning during commuter rush hours from city centre which is a 15- 25 min ride .
Would I stay here again ? I would actually knowing all its idiosyncrasis compared to so many awful or simplly mediocre accommodation charging an arm and a leg , I think Casuarina is just ok . Value for money? I don't think so .
DDr.QamarIt’s good place!
Some good things:
Location,sea life,food,environment,transfer services
Bad things:
No bar, after 10 pm you have to do your own things. Many people were asking for bar..while there was bar at near by resort and music programme
Mouse in the room, cold response on information at midnight by Reception
Many knocks for check soon after breakfast
No proper guidance and services for near by islands…even we tried to go for timba timba islands but we waited but they tell the high boat price and low information
GGästanvändareHotel Review
Positive Points:
1. Air-conditioning was very effective and kept the room comfortable throughout the stay.
2. Great window view – beautiful sea and jetty scenery that adds to the relaxing atmosphere. (see my attached picture)
3. Excellent location – conveniently close to eateries and the jetty, making it easy to get around.
4. Reasonably priced in-house food – offers good value for money for guests who prefer to dine in.
5. Complimentary extra bottled water was provided upon request, which was appreciated.
6. Friendly and helpful staff across all departments – from housekeeping, café, and maintenance to the front desk. Everyone was courteous and attentive.
7. Special mention to the chef – a very kind and gentlemanly person. On our first day, we ordered 6 fried eggs for breakfast, assuming they were included. The chef initially didn’t inform us of the RM2 charge per egg and kindly did not charge us for them. When we later tried to order again, he politely informed us about the charge. We truly appreciated his honesty and kind gesture.
8. very nice grilled meat at the roof cafe (5th floor). The promo price is 5 sticks for rm9.9 . worth to eat!
---
Areas for Improvement:
1. Limited breakfast buffet selection – mainly local dishes such as chicken, eggs, vegetables, rice, or noodles. While the food was tasty, there were no options like fresh milk, cereal, or egg station. Fruit choices were also limited to just bananas every day.
2. Window leakage during heavy rain – rainwater entered the room. However, the staff responded promptly and mopped the floor immediately.
3. No robe hooks in the bathroom – makes it inconvenient to hang clothes or towels.
4. Shortage of bath towels – clean towels were only available in the late afternoon after laundry was returned.
5. Extra blanket charge – an additional around rm50-60 was required if requesting one more blanket, which felt a bit expensive.
6. Low water pressure in the shower – the water flow was quite weak, making the shower experience less enjoyable.
7. Housekeeping quality needs improvement – there was sand in the room, and although we informed the staff, it was not cleaned properly even after the feedback.
Extra Tip for Travellers:
There’s no laundry shop in Semporna town, so do remember to bring enough clothes for your stay.
