"This was a gem on our trip. We had no real expectations, but compared to some other hotels, it was clear the staff tried hard to help with whatever they could and were outwardly friendly. Made us feel like our visit was appreciated. The hot baths were large and luxurious with outdoor pools and tubs. Meals were delicious and hearty. Another thing that makes this hotel stand out, is its incredible view by the river and across the valley."

"I really love hot spring inns like these in small places. As soon as I told the staff where I wanted to go, they arranged a car to take me there. The little boy's smile is so adorable. There's a Kannon Bodhisattva in the open-air bath. Sitting in the bath at night, I admired the full moon. Although the sky was filled with stars, it was too bright. I could only vaguely see some. At night, I strolled along the banks of the Achi River, listening to the rushing water and gazing at the dim yellow lights of the inns. At the foot of the mountain, I could see the Big Dipper with the moon behind me. It's a little inconvenient to get to from Tokyo, but the crowds are less and the experience is better. I'll wait for a chance to go stargazing in winter."

"We had a wonderful time and loved everything about the ryokan. But getting there was really, really difficult. We wanted to take the bus from Nagoya, but all the day-long bus tickets sold out that morning. So we had to take a taxi. A taxi from Nagoya to the ryokan costs 50,000 yen. That's very expensive. It's a shame there was no information anywhere about having to buy bus tickets in advance."
