The cottage is located on the edge of the ancient village of Tarvin which is mentioned in the Domesday book as Terve. The village has a 14th century church with damage dating back to the Civil War. There are also Georgian and Tudor buildings. Modern Tarvin has a Co op supermarket, an off license, pharmacy, newsagent and post office. It also has hairdressers and a beauty salon. There are two pubs and a bar and restaurant with live music at the George and Dragon on a Friday evening. Nearby is Pryors Heyes Golf club, sailing and windsurfing at Manley Mere or Go Ape in the forest. Oulton Park racing circuit and riding stables and fishing lakes are nearby with the ice cream farm at Tattenhall not far away. The nearest train station is Mouldsworth station two miles with trains to Chester and Manchester. There are buses every 15 minutes into Chester. Ideally situated for a short trip to the historic Roman city of Chester with its famous Roman walls and medieval Rows. Chester Zoo is world renowned and 5 miles away is Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet which has hundreds of shops selling well known brands at large discounts.
