The Black Bull Inn ★★★★

"The restaurant is a really nice space, welcoming and relaxed. However, we visited on a super sunny bank holiday Sunday, yet the staff seemed surprised the pub was busy! Service was not quite as slick as expected, and food was a bit of a let down - many items were over salty and the vegetarian option was unimaginative (just a piece of roast butternut squash, no herbs, species etc). We had to wait for plates to be cleared, and there was similar waiting and confusion at breakfast. I really wanted to love it, but there are issues that, if you're going to boast about rosettes and awards, need sorting."

The Red Lion ★★★

"We stayed here whilst on a walking holiday. The Red Lion has two bedrooms, both on the first floor. One is at the front of the Inn which has a large bedroom with ensuite bathroom and an adjoining very large lounge which was a lovely surprise. The rooms were clean and very comfortable, Breakfast was good and served in the pub. Staff asked for your breakfast choices the previous evening. We stayed on a Sunday evening and the pub had closed at 2100 hrs. We had been told that if we returned after that time to enter through the rear. Might be worth checking out where the door is as when we returned it was pouring with rain and dark so not immediately obvious."

"Fantastisk tjänst... när jag kom upp med en kompis som var villig att titta på en rugbymatch, som visade sig vara på en mörk kanal, kunde Jen kanske inte ha varit mer hjälpsam. Hon försökte ett antal olika idéer, tills hon slutligen lyckades, lånade ut sin bärbara dator till oss och försäkrade sig om att vi alla var uppsatta.Hon kunde helt enkelt inte ha varit mer välkomnande och hjälpsamt.Hennes strategi återspeglades verkligen bra på pub/hotell. Vi återvände till att äta senare och mat var utmärkt och väl betalt."
