"The staff at the reception were all very friendly, which made check-in a pleasant experience. It took about 10 minutes to walk from Bendigo Station to the hotel, and there’s a bus stop right in front, which is great for people without a car. Our room was on the ground floor, so the view was a bit blocked by trees, but it was still a comfortable place to stay for a night."

"What a pleasant surprise! Although older, our room was spotless, just the right size, quality towels and a very comfy bed. Snacks and drinks were available in the room for purchase also - a nice thought. The price included breakfast which was a bonus. Fantastic location when going to Ulumbarra theatre. Service was great."

"Our very comfortable room had a balcony from which we took in the view of the lovely Rosalind Park in the centre of town, while sipping our 1980 Grange and reflecting on the Paris exhibition at the Bendigo Art Gallery next door. Yes, all very civilised though the disintegration of the cork necessitated the purchase and employment of a $2 tea strainer to separate the liquid from the floating debris."

"Booked for a family of 4 (two adults and two children). Arrived after office hours, room was only set up for 3 guests to sleep. Had to sleep on the floor so wife and kids could sleep. Contact after hours number was told they couldn’t do anything until the next morning. Very disappointed and won’t be returning. Lots of traffic at all hours of the night coming/going which kept us awake"

"Ernest Hotel is situated right in the centre of Bendigo so it's a great location and there's free car parking available for guests which is good. The welcome we received was excellent and the quality of the rooms is very high. However, it's not really an hotel. There's no bar, no restaurant and if you want breakfast you have to order it 24 hours in advance which they don't warn you about in the welcome emails. I got the impression they don't actually want to provide breakfast. Given its location it's easy to find somewhere for dinner and breakfast nearby (Alium across the road was a very good dinner venue) but Ernest is really only somewhere to sleep. A very good place to sleep but not an hotel."
