"Our room had two single beds, a wardobe with safe, portable luggage rack, writing desk and chair, reverse cycle A/C and small TV (with over 100 channels!). However, there was no fridge. The bathroom had a shower over the bath, hair dryer and bidet. Fortunately, our room overlooked the bridge and roads outside which provided great views. There did not seem to be any food outlets close to the hotel and a drive into town or dinner at the hotel (which we had) seem the only options. The only hot food at breakfast was scrambled eggs and small sausages, plus cereal and fruit. We only stayed the one night so are unable to effectively rate quality of service, etc."

"Nestled within the walls of the fortified city of Elvas, this hotel once served as the Saint Paul Convent. Its conversion to Vila Gale Collection Elvas brings 18th century architecture into the modern era and utilizes vast interior open spaces for both public and private areas. Although our suite was very spacious and had wonderful views of the nearby ramparts from all the rooms, it was surprisingly sparsely furnished and with extremely uncomfortable seating options. Our interactions with the staff were always pleasant and helpful. We opted to include breakfasts and were not disappointed. We even went for dinner in the hotel and were delighted with our seafood mains of Sea Bass and Golden Cod fillets and of course a nice bottle of Val Moreira Reserve White."

The Bastion Elvas Apartments

"This was a very nice room. We stayed at the Batalha one. Nicely furnished, if a bit cold. We cranked the AC on max all night just to be comfortable. But the bathroom was still icy cold. They provided a space heater but it just took too long to use the bathroom quickly. So you just endured. Slightly odd that there was a small room with two windows right next to the bathroom with no use when the bathroom could have natural light instead. They advertised the option of a breakfast basket but sadly it was unavailable and the coffee shops nearby were either packed or didn’t seem very sanitary. There were just a couple of oversights in the apartment. One was the lack of plugs/USB near the bed. There was only one on each side and it was in use by the lights on the night table. The other one was the lack of a bench / hangers in the bathroom to hang your clothes / extra towels. You have to throw them on the floor. And it had enough room for a bench in a nook. Everything else was great."
