"It's nice resort but due to lack of customers, restaurant services not very good. Not many foreign tourist in this town. Don't expect many convenience you can find in bigger city. Unless you like more expensive seafood, not many choices nearby. Do get up early to see the fisherman coming back from sea."

"Despite the description, there was no buffet breakfast. We had to order the day before, either chicken, beef or vegetable noodle soup. It was served with some sliced melon at a pre arranged time. The restaurant was not really open either, the cook (I think) spoke to us and offered a couple of dishes, we had the stir fried seafood noodles with some stir fried morning glory (a type of spinach). The noodles were very nice. There was no bar/cafe operating in the hotel in the 3 days we were there. It is quite a way from town, and the nearest ATM (about 2km). They do not take credit cards or foreign currency, so you will have to cash up on dong. Nobody seems to speak any English although it says they do on their site. The room with ‘balcony’ doesn’t actually connect to it. Overall, it was ok, but I wouldn’t stay again."

"Rummet med egen pool och havsutsikt var otroligt vacker! Allt var rent och man kunde också använda anläggningen i huvudhuset. Allt var mycket vacker och servicen var mycket bra och vänlig. Frukost var mycket bra men middagen inte smakade så bra och vi föredrog att äta i stan. Burgern i restaurangen var inte så smakfull, men mat i stan är mycket bra. Men det var också en säsong och nästan ingenting hände. När mycket är på gång, är mat kanske också bättre. Massaget i spaen var super! Vi bokade dem strax igen. Det finns inte riktigt en strand utan bara en vägg med trappor genom klipporna men det var också trevligt att höra havet bara. Transporten från flygplatsen Hanoi tar mycket tid, men för detta var priset på den verkligen mycket bra."

"If you’d like to immerse yourself in domestic Vietnamese holiday culture, this is the place to go. Sam Son isn’t exactly geared for westerners like some other north Vietnam coastal destinations, but if you can handle being a bit on the edge, keep reading. Yes, it’s a 3hr drive from Hanoi, but hire cars are a reasonably priced option to get you there. It’s totally worth it if you’re the type to leave your expectations behind and just want something different to experience. Van Chai has a few rough edges, but really just a beautiful setting with heaps of rustic charm and character. The accommodations are probably sub-3 star to a westerner, but the experience is 5 star, due to the amenities, service and food. We were a bit critical about some of its shortfalls for the first few days (we stayed 9), then we found ourselves falling in love with it. Everyone is so friendly and, well, if you like seafood, you’ll probably not want to leave. The seafood here is insane (coming from an Aussie who lives in a fishing town). Just remember to leave your expectations behind, stay at least a week, get a massage or 3 and forget about the world you left behind. Perhaps avoid local school holidays 😁 also, the local beaches aren’t great, but the on-site pools are. Special mention to Thuy who made sure our every need was attended to 💕"
